With the advent of the grass-cutting season, and it is here as of tonight, we can't help but think of Bob Gibson and Dave Lilly in Minneapolis making their power lawn mowers. A lot of us have been waiting for the $9.98 model to come out, but now having given up all hope and with the chore of lawn-mowing seemingly increasing each year, we have formed a syndicate to make the necessary investment on a group basis. Maybe we can give you a consumer's report on Bob and Dave's product in the next issue.

Incoming news this month has been so bad that we have again had to resort to the reading of the Broadway gossip columns in the New York papers to find some dope on you guys. It is rather mild this month but timely. Dick Durrance, while in Innsbruck, Austria, shot some footage of one-legged skiers that so appealed to Warner Bros, that they are making a short out of it. Look for it in your neighborhood movie theatre, as the ads will say.

And from the old home town of Darien, Conn., comes word that Barbara Helen MacMannis joined sister Marcia and brother Bertram on April 12. Bert and Sally MacMannis are the proud parents. Have to announce it here as Bert will probably never remember to put it in '39 Out.

The Henry Hastings sent up smoke signals on April 8, announcing the arrival of Ripley Ellison Hastings, Dartmouth '74, in West Springfield, Mass.

As this is written the Alumni Fund is in high gear, with the size of the individual gift showing a sizable increase over last year, but the number of givers is not quite up to last year's performance. Don't let George do it all, this is open to every one.

Two of the class are especially fortunate to be able to enjoy a Hanover spring as residents, and not as tourists. Howie Chivers lives in Hanover and carries on his camp director's activities from there. Dick Dunham and his family are living out on River Ridge. Dick is a Research Technician.

Lawyer Jack Graham is enjoying a general law practice with a partnership in Crawford and Graham, Media, Pa. Jack lives in Villanova with wife Isabelle and Bobbie, Tommie and Jacquelin. Ton Vent is a lawyer, and resident of Chicago. We know Tom generally makes all the '39 activities, but we have no recent news from him on whom he has seen. Another legal mind is Phil Dressier, who with wife Elizabeth and son Robert make their home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Phil has been there since 1944. Sees Jack Cook quite often, and reports seeing Hass Warrener during a Florida vacation. Hass is a resident of Cincinnati, where he is Assistant Superintendent of agencies for Union Central Life Insurance Company.

jack Kuhlke is living on the outer reaches of Long Island at Smithtown Branch where he reports he is one of the few remaining general practitioners, and is enjoying every minute of it. Besides attending to his own extensive practice, Jack does some work for Bob Jessup who is in charge of the Medical department at nearby Sperry Gyroscope.

I have a promise in front of me from HankWhite whereby he states he is going to write. We haven't got the word as yet from Hank, but believe he is covering the greater Boston territory for Flintkote, and outside of business hours you can find him at home at 34 Smith Rd., Hingham, Mass.

Around New York, Sam Thurrn is doing advertising research for Young and Rubicam, Inc., and living in Scarsdale with wife Ruth and their two boys Andrew, aged 8, and Allen, aged 5. Hort Wainright commutes from Stamford to Time, Inc. where he is Assistant Purchasing Agent. Hort and wife Dotty have two children, Kevin, 3, and Sharon, aged 2. DickBrooks is in Westport, and incidentally have you noticed that his comic strip The JacksonTwins is not only appearing in the Sunday editions, but is a daily comic in many papers? Al Tishman is another Stamford commuter to New York where he is in the real estate business as vice-president of Tishman Realty & Construction Co. Inc., in charge of management. The Tishmans have two children, a girl, aged 7, and a boy, age 4.

Johnny Wood is a lucky resident of the North Country, doing purchasing and labor relations work in Lebanon. Dave Ward is also engaged in purchasing work, as Purchasing Agent for Turner Construction Co. Dave and Bess live in Elkins Park, Pa., with Dave Jr. just over a year old.

Al Bodge is in Van Nuys, Calif., as Branch Manager for Southern California Audio Devices, Inc. The Bodges never did receive credit here for the birth of son Andrew, now just over one year old, and we regret we did not make an earlier announcement.

In the world of education we find WymanVaughn ensconced at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, as Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The Vaughns can be found at home at 812 Berkshire Rd. with their children Sally, age 4, and Douglas, age 1½.

Jim Brenner is Assistant Treasurer of the Macon Hosiery Mills and also of the Cotton States Fertilizer Co. in Macon, Ga. When we last heard from Jim he was expecting recall to active duty with the Army, but in the abscence of other news guess he has escaped so far.

Dick Baldauf lives in Bloomfield, Conn., and works as an underwriter for the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co. The Baldaufs have three children, Dickie, Nancy and Gail. Around Boston we hear that Johnny Perry is fast becoming one of Boston's leading painting contractors. Ken Ritchie is a production man- ager and living in Sudbury.

Up in New York State Don Bridge is selling hardware and living in Singerlands, N. Y., has four children, and says he gets around to any of the Dartmouth hockey and basketball games in the vicinity.

Congratulations to Lou Oberdorfer, who has just been made a member of the Washington law firm of Cox, Langford, Stoddard & Cutler.

Have a good summer!
