1906 Enjoys Top-Notch 45th
July 1952 EDWARD B. REDMAN '06

OUR delayed 45th reunion has come and gone. To those who didn't make it, greetings from those who did.

Forty-eight men, 25 wives and four of the younger generation were present to enjoy the excellent program arranged by Halsey and his committee. Everything was perfect including the most perfect weather ever enjoyed in Hanover.

Our Friday night dinner with the men and women of '07 and 'OB was a great success. The food was excellent and the fellowship most enjoyable. The President's reception was held out of doors under the stars and everyone attended. As far as could be learned Shorty Neal and his wife were the only '06 people who patronized the dance afterwards.

Saturday morning we sat around headquarters, chattering like magpies, until 11:30 when the class picture was taken. From there we went to the gym for a delicious buffet lunch and then to the alumni meeting.

At 4 o'clock we wended our way to 6 Occom Ridge where we were royally entertained by Lorraine and Halsey, aided materially by Bill and Bob. This was the highlight of the reunion for we sat out on the lawn overlooking the Connecticut River, visiting with one another and enjoying the good things Lorraine had prepared.

Forty-five men gathered in Thayer Hall at 7 o'clock for our class dinner. After an excellent meal Dave called the meeting to order and asked for a report from the secretary, the treasurer and the class agent.

The nominating committee consisting of Dan Hatch and Art Chapin presented the following slate of officers, which was unanimously approved: President, Walter Powers; Vice-Pres., Thurlow Gordon; Secretary, Edward Redman; Treasurer, Norman Russell; Member of the Executive Committee, TomConnell.

The new president took the chair and called on our oldest living member, George Seager, who recited with a great deal of feeling "Out to Auaf Mary's." Walter then called on ClydeSouter to explain why he had waited 45 years before coming to a class reunion.

The following resolution was unamiously approved: "Resolved: That the Class of 1906 pledges to the College that efforts will be made to have all members of the Class of 1906 take appropriate steps to provide for Dartmouth in their estate plans."

After dinner some went to see No Mother toGuide Her in Webster Hall while the rest went back to headquarters to continue their reminiscing.

Sunday morning we were glad to welcome Hal and Ruth Smith, Olive Blood and CarmenScrihver, who came for the day. A few stayed for lunch in the tent at noon but a number left soon after breakfast.

To all those absentees who sent in snapshots, many thanks. Those present enjoyed them very much.

And now for a word or two from some of our classmates, who could not get back to Hanover.

Gus Ayers "Wish we could be with you in June as we are one of the unfortunate pairs who have never been to a reunion. On May 12th I was placed on a semi-retired basis as Consulting Engineer. Bernice and I wish you and all the classmates the best of luck and a wonderful time at the Reunion."

Norm Bankart "Sorry not to be with you in June. My blood pressure is improving with rest and pills but still too high. Glad to say Mabel is fine and joins in sending our best to all."

Craw Bishop "Am sailing from Japan on June first but do not land in Seattle in time to get to Hanover. Best wishes to all the boys for a good reunion."

Maynor Brock Madalyne wrote "that they are terribly sorry to miss reunion but Maynor is not strong enough to make the long trip."

Homer Brown "Am enjoying good health as well as the green messengers. Am very sorry I cannot be with you. Hope you all have a wonderful time and good weather at the reunion. I will be thinking of you. Give my best to all present."

Ray Butterfield "At the time of the reunion I will probably be in Chicago on my way to the coast to attend a meeting of the General Council of Congregational Christian Churches. Am sorry to miss seeing my good friends of old '06."

Walter Dakin "Genevieve and I are greatly disappointed not to be in Hanover in June but we will be far away in Europe. This trip was planned over a year ago when we thought our 45th reunion would be in 1951. When we found out that the 45th would be in '52 it was too late to change our plans. Greetings to all."

Mike Edgerton "Sorry to miss reunion but Edna and I will be in Europe." Paxil Felt A note from Flossie advised that Paul was not at all well so could not get to Hanover. Paul sent his best to all the boys. Harold Fish "Up until today I had thought there was a chance that I might be with the class at the reunion. No hope now. Am working day and night on a Genetics text for Medical and Dental students. I suppose that if I ever finish it I will spend the rest of my days revising it. Hope to get up to northern Michigan and the Algoma Country in Canada for a little fishing."

Ralph Fitts "Glad to be represented by my picture since we cannot be there in the flesh."

Jess Gage "Am indeed sorry that I cannot be in Hanover this June to enjoy the reunion with everyone but feel that my physical condition will not permit so much physical activity. Hope it will be the best reunion ever even though I cannot be there."

Pitcher Glaze Winifred writes that "she and Ralph will be with us in spirit but are very sorry not to be with us in person."

Paul Hagberg-" Had planned to drive to Hanover with my wife and two daughters. However I had a major operation in April and spent five weeks in the Hospital. Checked with my doctor yesterday and when I mentioned my proposed trip, he turned thumbs down. Sorry to miss the fun."

Ray Herman Upon my return from a month's fishing trip I found your letter asking for a contribution to the Alumni Fund. Although I am entirely out of harmony with Dartmouth College I am enclosing a gift only as a compliment to you because of your efforts for the class. Dartmouth is not the college that it was when the class of 1906 was there."

Cap Ketcham "Have just sold my house. As you know I lost my wife over two years ago and I can't keep up with the big house alone. My health is somewhat precarious due to heart complications, though I still carry on my business a few hours a day. Wish I could make the reunion but that is something else I want and can't have. Say hello to the boys for me."

Bucky Kraft "Was hoping to be with you in June but have had to change my plans." Joe Nuelle "Had planned to be present but Mrs. Nuelle is in the hospital and it is impossible to get away."

Charles Parker "Best wishes for a grand reunion and regards to all."

Alan Parrish "Although I only attended Dartmouth College one semester I am enclosing a contribution to the Alumni Fund so that 1906 can make a good showing. Best regards to everybody."

Eton Pratt "Sorry but I shall be on a business trip away from the East." George Terrien - "Moved down here to Midland, Texas, last year and am such a lone wolf that I have completely lost track of everything and everyone. Hope you all have a wonderful reunion and wish that I could be with you. Give my best to the few '06 men who still remember me."

Dud Warner "Sorry." Harlan Wood "Sorry but I will not be able to make Hanover this June."

Bill Wood "Had a visit with Max and Art in Boston on May 28th. Suzanne and I are sorry we cannot make the reunion but will be in San Francisco."
