St. Patrick's Day Dance: On March 17, New York alumni made it a doubly big day for the Green, by staging a festive dance at the Dartmouth Club. Several hundred alumni, their wives, dates and guests danced to the music of Dick Young and his orchestra from 5:30 to 8:30, and a delightful time was had by all. Kudos to John Vincens '39 and his entertainment committee.
Awards Luncheon is a Success: On April 27, the first annual Awards Luncheon, sponsored by the Dartmouth Club of New York, took place in the Georgian Room of the Statler. Awards were presented to four Dartmouth alumni, living or working in the metropolitan area, whose accomplishments in their field of endeavor or community service exemplify the best of Dartmouth. Present for this gala affair was the new football coach Bob Blackman, meeting the New York alumni for the first time.
Squash Success: The Dartmouth Club squash team, skippered once more by indefatigable Ort "Iron Mike" Hicks '21, staged a strong drive through the stretch to finish in the first division of the "C" Class of the Metropolitan squash league. Prospects of a title next year are dancing in front of Ort's eyes, as he surveys his well-rounded squad of Joel Berson '49,'Howland Sergeant '32, MelFenichell '43, Abe Weld '21 (Sonny Tufts?!), Dick Stanwood '49, Jay Weinberg '4O, and Howard Van Bomel '38.
Class dinners continue to attract big crowds to the Dartmouth Club of New York. Most classes are having three, and all are having at least two, of these affairs this season; keep your eyes on the mail, for you'll receive a postcard about your class dinner if you live or work around New York. Among the Dartmouth graduates currently holding forth at Columbia are Ollie Lilley '30, teaching in the Library School, Ken Rothchild '50, studying history, Bill Wiles '50, grinding away at geology, Johnny Pegg '52 at the Business School, Paul Smith '21, chairman of the mathematics department, and Erl Hunt '21, the history chairman at Teachers' College.
Temporarily out of action as the result of an auto accident was Cliff "Ubiquitous" Hart '21, reporter extraordinary for the DartmouthClub News. Nothing serious., we're glad to report.
