1906 has celebrated the passing of another milestone in its long career. The 55th Reunion was a great success although the attendance was not too good. Twenty classmates, eight wives, four widows, six children and friends were present and while it rained most of Friday and Saturday we managed to run off most of the events scheduled.
Our Friday night dinner was very informal with no set speeches. The President presided and after telling a few stories called on Francis to report on the program of events and pass out the tickets for them. Then Walter asked Nat Leverone to reminisce about some of our departed members.
After the dinner we went to the President's Reception and then to the Glee Club concert.
Saturday it rained so hard it was necessary to cancel the taking of the class picture. There was nothing we could do but sit around the tent and visit.
At noon we went to the Outing Club, took the class picture inside and had an excellent lunch. Walter called the meeting to order after we had finished eating and asked the treasurer to report on the finances of the class. Norm Russell reported that the class was solvent and proposed that the present officers be re-elected for another five years as he didn't want to lose his job. Voted.
Francis Childs gave a resume of the work of the Reunion Committee.
The Secretary reported that after consulting several of the members and also some of the college officials he wanted to ask the class to approve the formation of a 1906 Alumni Fund Memorial, the income from which would be credited each year to the current alumni fund. This would mean that for years to come the class of 1906 would be on record as making a yearly contribution. This was approved by the class.
Fred Welch was awarded a prize for coming direct to the Reunion from the most remote outpost and Max Hartmann was awarded the prize for circling the globe to get here.
At three o'clock we adjourned to the home of Lorraine and Halsey Edgerton for the class tea party. As usual they were the most gracious hosts and the party was a great success.
At six o'clock we journeyed to the Gym for a buffet dinner and afterwards attended the annual meeting of the Alumni Association.
The final event was the "Pajama Game" in Webster Hall.
Sunday those of us who remained for the Commencement exercises were thrilled to see Francis Childs awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
