ROGER C. WILDE '21, who during his seven years as Class Agent achieved an unprecedented record for sustained success, has been elected by the Dartmouth Alumni Council to serve as Chairman of the 1954 and 1955 Alumni Funds. He succeeds Kenneth M. Henderson '16, who has been chairman for the past two years.
Mr. Wilde, who is General Manager of the Contract Department of the Simmons Company, Chicago, achieved such outstanding results as Class Agent that at the end of the 1951 Alumni Fund campaign, he received from the College a special citation in which he was praised for his "extraordinary service." In the words of the citation, "It is one thing to take a class whose record has been poor and improve it. It is quite another matter to take an outstanding record and in one year make it look poor by comparison. By doing this he has set a mark for all agents and all classes."
Before Mr. Wilde became head agent in 1947, the Class of 1921 had twice been a Green Derby winner, in 1937 and 1941. In 1946, it had made the good record of having 83% of the class contributing to the Alumni Fund. During the seven years which followed, its participation index was: 94% in 1947' 90% in 1948, 97% in 1949, 100% in 1950 and 1951; 101% in 1952 and 102% in 1953. Beginning in 1948, under the leadership of Mr. Wilde, the Class of '21 took the Green Derby for six consecutive years. In terms of dollars, there was an increase from $9,972 in 1947 to $18,764 in 1953.
Among the honors accorded Mr. Wilde in recognition of his outstand- ing work were the award of the Reyn- olds Trophy in 1948, the special cita- tion in 1951, and election as president of the Class Agents Association for 1950-5 !•
Active in Dartmouth affairs for many years, Mr. Wilde in addition to his work with the Alumni Fund has served as a member of the Alumni Council since 1952.
