THE annual Alumni Fund Report is presented this year in a new form. It will be found as a special supplement in the middle of this issue. The names of alumni contributors to the 1953 Fund are listed in the class columns beginning on Page 40.

This month's feature section contains the greater part of the Great Issues lecture delivered October 19 by David E. Lilienthal, former Chairman of TVA and of the Atomic Energy Commission (Page 16). He spoke on "The Issue of Bigness in American Life" and took the position that on balance bigness is a good and essential thing for this nation.

The ALUMNI MAGAZINE plans to print from time to time articles about some of the famous and influential Dartmouth men of the past. The series is opened this month with an article (Page 23) about Charles Ransom Miller '72, who was Editor of The New York Times for nearly forty years, 1883 to 1922. It has been written by John Hurd '21, associate editor of the MAGAZINE.

In the book-review section this month we are especially pleased to have the distinguished American novelist, Kenneth Roberts '34h, as a contributor. On Page 7 he writes about The Unconquered, final novel of the late Ben Ames Williams '10. Other December contents:
