Your secretary is very happy to report that two more highly successful functions were held during the Christmas holidays in the Twin Cities. On Saturday noon, December 27. the annual Christmas smoker was held at the Interlachen Club and on December go, a holiday get-together for undergraduates and prospects was held at the home of Stu MacPhail
Tom Warner, who has recently returned to Minneapolis after a spell in New York, chairmaned one of the best Christmas smokers the alumni have had in many years. The Interlachen Club was an ideal setting (we had the Club all to ourselves) and the Club put on a very nice luncheon. Of course there was a pleasant interlude with appropriate refreshments prior to lunch. Lyman Wakefield and Morrow Peyton were receiving congratulations on their recently announced promotions at the First and Northwestern National Banks, respectively. Bill Cullen had his boy Bill Jr. along. Bill McFadden, just back from Korea, was there to say hello during a short furlough. Jack Beatty, home for the weekend from his regular job in Oklahoma, was also there. Kent Calhoun reported that he was now with the Ryerson Steel Company and just was in the city over the Christmas weekend.
Of course, such old standbys as LutherOakes, Red Loudon, Bob Goss, Bill Taylor,Lyle McKown, John Faegre, John Kelley, TomCharlton, Vin Else and Stu Seidl were among those present. In addition, we had a very nice representation of undergraduates, including, among others, Bill Johnson, Bill Balch, the two Horton brothers, Don Bush, and TomLord, who came up from Owatonna for the occasion. Arnie Oss reported that he was now at Minnesota Mining in St. Paul. Incidentally, Tom Warner is leaving shortly for Japan to play hockey over there with a group of hockey stars from the United States. On his return, he expects to go with Jari Products and work with Dave Paulson. Our representation from St. Paul was most conspicuous by its absence. Ted Gaver managed to find his way over and perhaps next year he can organize a motorcade for the St. Paul residents. Tom and StuMacPhail both deserve a great deal of credit for doing a bang-up job.
Walter Bush and Dave Leslie did the lion's share of the work on the meeting for prospects held on December 30 at Stu MacPhail's home. Janet MacPhail, Gretchen Krieger and Dorothy Wonson arranged for refreshments which we understand disappeared with amazing rapidity.
The alumni present were ably assisted by a number of undergraduates, including Jack Buffington, Pete Ankeny, John Rossiter and Jim Breedon.
Joe Vancisin, assistant coach of the Minnesota basketball team now has a boy! It is reported that Joe presented his son with a basketball and sneakers for his first Christmas. Vin Else's wife recently had her fourth girl.
It is rumored that we may be able to get Justin Stanley, the new vice-president of the College, here to speak at our annual meeting this spring. We are hoping also that we may be able to get the Glee Club to come out here again for a concert in April.
