184th Commencement To Be Held June 14

DARTMOUTH'S 184 th Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 14, a climactic day for the senior class of approximately 575 men who will receive degrees at the traditional Bema exercises.

Parents and other guests of the graduating class will be joined that weekend by alumni back for the first installment of class reunions, notably by the members of the 50-Year Class of 1903 and of the 25 Year Class of 1928. Other reunions will be held by 1888, 1893 and 1898. The following weekend, June 19-21, will see a great many more alumni on the campus when 1917, 1918, 1937, 1938, 1939 and 1943 all return for class reunions.

The Commencement weekend will open on Friday afternoon, June 12, with Class Day exercises, and will continue that evening with reunion banquets, a Band concert, the President's reception, a Glee Club concert, and the Commencement Ball. Class Day speakers for 1953 will consist of Francis A. L'Esperance Jr., Address of Welcome; Charles B. Buchanan, Address to the College; Brock H. Brower, Class Poem; William C. Beutel, Class Oration; Robert W. Nicholson Jr., Sachem Oration; and John B. Rice, Address to the Old Pine.

The annual Commencement luncheon and meeting of the General Association of Alumni will take place at the gymnasium Saturday noon. Repeating the plan inaugurated last year, the mothers of seniors and the wives of alumni and faculty will' be guests of the College along with the seniors, their fathers, alumni and faculty. Among those who will speak at the meeting will be President Dickey; Myles J. Lane '28, president of the General Alumni Association, who will preside; Edward H. Kenerson 03, who will deliver the 50-Year Address on behalf of the honored Class of 1903; and the secretary-chairman of the Class of 1953, to be elected in early May.

Saturday afternoon will be given over to outings, Dartmouth movies and fraternity reunions. The Saturday evening events will include reunion banquets, movies, another Band concert, and The Players' performance of Mister Roberts.

On Commencement morning, commissioning ceremonies for the graduates of the ROTC courses will be held at 8:30 in advance of the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises in the Bema at 11. For the reunion classes, memorial services and informal picnics and outings will bring the weekend to a close.

Among the highlights of the second reunion weekend, June 19-21, will be the President's reception and the alumni dance on Friday evening; the luncheon and annual meeting of the General Alumni Association on Saturday noon; the class picnics, banquets and Players' show later that day; and the memorial services and final outings on Sunday. Donald C. McKinlay '37. of Denver, vice president of the General Alumni Association, will preside at the Saturday meeting, and other speakers will include President Dickey and a spokesman for the 40-year class.
