Friday, March 20, was a big day for the Chattanooga alumni. A dinner meeting was held at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, and we felt very fortunate to have Sidney Hayward visit with us.
Everyone enjoyed hearing Sid depict the local color in Hanover. He told of the many hurdles the College had passed in the postwar years, and presented the even Trigger problems facing the College today. Much of Sid's enthusiasm brushed off on the local alumni, and everyone went away with renewed interest in the College. He brought along two films, "My First Week at Dartmouth" and "Winter Sports." Both are excellent productions and brought back pleasant memories.
An election of new officers for the Chattanooga Club was held. Dick Houck '34 was elected president, and he will be ably assisted by Scott Probasco Jr. '50, as secretary. HardwickCaldwell '44, retiring president, presided at the meeting and recognized four new members who have recently moved to the Chattanooga area. They are: Melvin Southwick '19, Superintendent of Emerald Hodgson Hospital at Sewanee, Tenn.; John Wheaton '40, who is now working at DuPont's Chattanooga Nylon Plant; Frank Hartman '43, who is now associated with Cabin Crafts, rug manufacturers at Dalton, Ga., as a marketing consultant; BobPretat '46, who is an engineer at the local General Portland Cement Plant.
Bill Thomas '52 had just received his Wings in the Navy Air Corps, and was home for a few days before reporting to Corpus Christi. Joe Lane '21 has been re-elected to serve on the Alumni Council, and we are proud to have such an able representative.
A1 Dickerson had already done an excellent job of promoting our fair city, and we hope Sid was able to return to Hanover with a favorable report.
