A nominating committee for officers of the Dartmouth Club of Hartford has been active in making up the slate for the 1953-'54 year. The members of the committee are Bill Bates '32, Bruce Manternach '37 and George Baine '4l. Their report will be submitted to the Club at the spring meeting.
At this writing, the annual meeting on April 16 is being planned; to be held for the first time at Cook's Lounge at Trinity College. Wives and friends of the members are invited. The films of "My First Week at Dartmouth" and "Dartmouth Out-of-Doors" which were so well received at the freshman luncheon last fall are to be shown. Refreshments help to make the evening a more social gathering. The Club has brought the wives into more activities than ever before and the consensus of opinion has been that they have added much to make the year a more successful one than any in recent years. Rich Fisher '41 as president and Cal Billings '28 as treasurer (and many other jobs have been done by him) have been very much on the ball and their enthusiasm and hard work have been an inspiration to the many others who have helped in bringing our membership above 160 for the first time. There are still many in the greater Hartford area who are not active but the varied program of meetings and luncheons has brought out good-sized and enthusiastic groups.
The Club is continuing its efforts in contacting the schools of this area, with a committee headed by Culver Modisette '50 working on plans for meetings at various private and public schools to tell prospective students more about the College.
Volume 1, Number 2 of the Club paper, Smoke Signals, has just been sent to the members. This issue is well done and contains much of interest to the Club from a local angle. The many people who have worked hard to bring out this issue are to be congratulated. This means of bringing news to the families of the Club is proving very successful.
All should keep in mind the spring outing in June. Further announcement on this will be made by Rich Fisher when plans have been completed.
