Tomorrow morning I leave for Hanover and rather than run the risk of not getting this month's class notes written during my stay there I think it will be wise to put the column together tonight. Hanover must be very green at this time of year - especially this year, we've had so much rain. Some people think the atomic bomb explosions are playing havoc with the atmospheric conditions. Oh well, last week they found Texas dust on the sidewalks of New York. A few weeks ago air pressure was so low that Mickey Mantle hit a home run more than 560 feet. A jet plane broke through the sound barrier over Long Island and caused a shattering explosion. But if one of Snuffy Smith's tee shots from the first hole in Hanover ever makes the 18th Green at Long Beach, Calif., I'm going to stop reading the papers. Anyway it'll be nice to get back to Dartmouth.

Before anything else, here's a letter from Red Taft. Anybody who takes time out while selling on the road and writes me a line deserves top billing. So here goes:

"Each month when I read the ALUMNI MAG I wish there were more '41 news. Then I realize that its up to us to supply it. Guess you have no secret pipeline. Travelling for 'Tidy House Paper Inc. of New York (selling the grocery- trade) have run into some classmates. About a month ago I had dinner with Ed Marlette and his wife Norma in Snyder, N. Y. Ed has four children, two boys and two girls. Had a good time but was sobered by the recent death of Spider Spinney, Ed's ex-roomie Last week I was in Minneapolis and visited with Bob and Gretchen Krieger. They have two girls and a new son. By the way, my wife Alice (HuMurphy's sister) and I had a son last October 7 on the day the Yanks beat the Dodgers for the world's championship. (Did you have to remind me?)

"At the weekly Dartmouth luncheon in Minneapolis, I ran into John Kelley, Jack Larigan and Tom Charlton. One night Krieger and I drove over to a small town north of St. Paul and visited with Don Norton. Don and his wife Ginny have two boys and a girl - all red-heads. Don is back at Minnesota Mining after a two-year hitch in the Navy (return engagement)."

Thanks a million for all that news, Red. Keep me posted as you travel around the country.

News from Palm Beach, Fla.: Gus Broberg has been appointed judge of the City Court of Palm Beach. Gus is a member of the law firm of Coe, Richardson and Broberg. So if anybody's going to get fined for speeding, please make it in Palm Beach where there's a Dartmouth man at the helm.

On March 1 Commander Dave Nutt left on another annual winter expedition in Labrador. Bud Martin, our class agent, and president of the Martin Motor Car Company, was voted Springfield's (Mo.) "Young Man of the Year," an annual event of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Lloyd Fishman of Manchester, N. H., is treasurer and manager of the Standard Overall Dry Cleaning Cos. of that city. Sandy Courter has been called back in the Navy as an M.D. at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Burt Hedin is Treasurer of Worcester County Institution for Savings and has three children. Joe Griffith, living in Spokane, Wash., is Assistant Rolling Mill Superintendent at the Trentwood Works of Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp. He and his wife Alice have two boys and one girl. Hyzer Jones is another doctor who has been recalled by the Navy. He's now a Lieutenant and a surgeon at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, N. H. Fred Eaton out in Glen Ellyn, Ill., is a buyer of electrical housewares for Sears Roebuck & Cos. Fred has two boys, two girls, and still has time for a little golf.

Jim Morgan lives in New Brunswick, N. J., and is an engineer at DuPont Photo Products. Jim says he sees Herb Bailey occasionally at alumni meetings. Jim's president of Central Jersey Alumni Club and keeps his thumb "green" by interviewing prospects. He says the footballers are few and far between.

Bill Clark is one doctor who has completed his second service hitch. He was released from the Army last winter and is now practicing medicine in San Francisco. Cam Farmer is an attorney in Muskegon, Mich., and reports that he sees Bruce Muir from time to time. AI Gordon writes from Omaha that he's the owner of the Finlay Ice Service Cos. From deep in the heart of Texas comes news of Shackelford Reeder. He's an independent oil operator and an attorney, but that's not the story. The real story is that he's the father of two sets of twins of which three are boys and all registered at Dartmouth.

Clint Reynolds up in Worcester, Mass., is Assistant Counsel at The Massachusetts Protective Association Inc. and The Paul Revere Life Insurance Cos. One of the boys that got Stu May married off was Norm Jones of Burlington, la. Norm is Treasurer of the Drake Hardware Co., is married, and has three youngsters. Another fellow in the hardware business is Bill Paddock. Bill lives in Wolcott, N. Y., and gets to see the gang around Rochester quite often. Larry Norton, of Ridgewood, N. J., is Assistant to Vice President of the Gilman Paper Cos. in New York City.

I ran into Jack McMillin of the Research Department of Merrill Lynch in New York City. Jack is about to move into his newlyacquired home in Garden City-a beauty near the Golf Club which will remain that way if there aren't too many slicers like yours truly playing there. Well, tomorrow afternoon I'll get a round under my belt at Hanover. And that's all for now. Get those Alumni Fund donations in so Bud Martin can stop taking Aceto-pheneditin (or somethin').
