Wini Welch married Alex Fuster, with picture in the New York Times to boot: "Mrs. Fuster is the product and market development manager for the Bachman Company, a snack foods concern in Reading (Pa.).... She graduated from Dartmouth College and received an M.B.A. from Stanford University. Mr. Fuster is an associate management consultant with McKinsey & Co. in Dallas. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and also received an M.BA. from Stanford." Translation: (1) Wini will be using her married name; (2) The couple will move to Dallas; (3) Bachman will be increasing distribution in Texas. (Not!)
This month's "brush with fame": MichaelRockefeller. I'm leafing through Harper's Bazarre and moving towards the back, and there I see Mike's picture in full color in the 'society' section. The caption says "Michael and Allison Rockefeller." Translation: (1) Mike is married or parties with his cousin; (2) His wife's or cousin's name is Allison; (3) He attends museum benefits. The article says that this was a gathering for 900 of one's closest friends. "The event has become an occasion not to be missed with the younger set, especially those who winter in other locales...." Hmm, why weren't the rest of us pictured?
Geoff Michel writes, "I'm getting married in July to a woman named Ann Moe. She is an elementary school teacher. I'm still working for the Governor of Minnesota, fighting budget deficits, bureaucrats, and legislators. Just bought a house in the 'burbs. I'm thankful not to have to twist any more arms for the Alumni Fund—classmates should not be so frightened when I call them nowadays. Hope to have more updates for you after seeing some of the gang this summer at the wedding." Translation: (1) When Geoff becomes governor, he will try to raise teachers' salaries; (2) The next call from Geoff will not be for Dartmouth moolah, but will be for a different "fund;" (3) We can expect to read more news from him soon!
Next! Jim Citron: "I'll be temporarily (emphasis his) abandoning life as a college dean to return to graduate school Ph.D. program in educational linguistics: Second Language Acquisition." Well, boy, I'm glad we got that clear.
And, oh my God! The one, the only, Jonathan Skurnik! "I'm living in Brooklyn, N.Y., publishing a magazine for men called Men as We Are, circulation 20,000. Would love submission of poetry, fiction, essays, photography, from other Dartmouth men. Send to Jonathan Skurnik, 581 Tenth St., Brooklyn, NY 11215. I love the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, much more, in fact, than I loved Dartmouth itself." I'm sure this is due to my column. If you get in his magazine, you get an automatic mention in the "brush with fame" part of the column.
Mike Mizuki writes, "After a wonderful four years in Oklahoma (it really is OK), at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, I am doing my residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va. Anyone with a sports injury can call for a free consultation." Wow, you read it here first.
Also doing a residency in medicine is ElisaRush, who wants to be a surgeon. JavierArizmendi is working for an architect in New York. Anne Mahoney is engaged to that seaman that she brought to reunion.
