William Joseph Minsch '07, Trustee Emeritus of the College, died on October 25 in Montclair, N. J., after a long illness.
Mr. Minsch was born in Hartford, Conn., but grew up in Worcester, Mass., and was educated in the Worcester schools. During his undergraduate years at Dartmouth he earned his way as manager of the College Bookstore. He also found time to play guard on the freshman and sophomore football teams, and as a senior delivered the Class Day oration. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta. After graduation he returned to Tuck School to receive his M.C.S. degree in 1908.
Immediately after graduating from Tuck Mr. Minsch accepted a position with the United Fruit Company on one of its Guatemalan banana plantations. He was soon promoted to the management of a plantation and put in charge of the construction of a 1000 acre plantation, complete with railways. Returning to the States in 1909 he joined the investment house of Lee, Higginson & Co. and soon became sales manager for the company. In 1920 he formed his own company, Minsch, Monell & Co., and served as its president until 1942 when he became a partner until his retirement in 1952. From 1926 to 1931 he was a general partner of Aldred & Co.
Mr. Minsch was appointed governor of the Bond Club of New York 1920-22, and again 1926-30. He was also a member of the Broad Street Club and the Downtown Athletic Club.
As a resident of Montclair Mr. Minsch was deeply interested in the civic affairs of the town. He was a member of the Montclair Association and had served as a member of the Town Commission and as Director of Revenue and Finance.
Throughout his life Mr. Minsch gave unstintingly of his time and energy to Dartmouth. He was president of the Alumni Council 1928-34 and served as chairman of the Alumni Fund Committee in 1931 and 1932. He arranged the sale of the bonds that financed the first Dartmouth Club House in New York. As an Alumni Trustee of the College from 1937 to 1948 he served on the Committee on Investments where his financial experience was invaluable to the College. In 1937 Dartmouth awarded him the honorary degree of A.M.
On November 5, 1910 Mr. Minsch was mar- ried to Neva N. Reynolds of Oneida, N. Y., who survives him with their children, William J. Jr. '36; Dorothy Louise, now Mrs. Nelson L. Bond; and Elizabeth, now Mrs. Jarrett Buys. Mr. Minsch had recently moved to Rensselaer Road, Essex Fells, N. J.
Dartmouth and the Class of 1907 have lost one of their most devoted and highly re- spected members.
