Greetings, gang! That old familiar heap of engagements and marriages is deep. And since last month we devoted most of our space to the erstwhile bachelor, and various and unsundry meanderings, let's now see if we can't bring you up to date on the growing '51 family.
HEADING FOR THE AISLE
Charlie Geilich heads up the list with the announcement of his engagement to Nina Hall. Nina, not being satisfied with two years at Colby Jr., went on to Wheaton, where she will graduate in June. Charlie has finished up a curse at the Pratt Institute School of leather and Tanning Technology. His favorite word is "horsehide." Kent MacKenzie and Josephine Williams became engaged back in December. Kent is just out of the Air Force after serving two years, while Josephine went on to Michigan State for graduate work after completing her curriculum at Penn State College. Early this summer it will be heavenly bliss, as they take their steps up the aisle. We haven't received official word yet, but a December 30 wedding was planned for Bill Robertson and Mary Joan Rowe. Bill recently completed a ten-month tour of duty in the Orient and at last reports was a lieutenant on the USS Molala. We hope everything went oft according to schedule.
Did you hear that Floyd Parks and Lonne Anderson of Larchmont, N. Y„ were engaged? The big news broke in mid-January with the nuptial ceremonies due in the summer. Floyd, as you probably know, is at the Johns Hopkins Med School, and Lorine is working on her Masters of Arts in English sheepskin at Columbia, after doing a four-year stmt at Wellesley Paul Simel got up his nerve and proposed to Hally Lee Kornbluth recently, and we are all very pleased to hear that she consented to marriage. From reports, Hally's educational program is as long as the Gettysburg address, so we will not endeavor to relate it here. However, her last educational home was the Parsons School of Design in New York. Paul is finishing up at the Boston Univ. Med school. John Mitchell has finally succeeded in getting Audrey Meyer to say "yes." It will be a June wedding for the Leonia, N. J., Miss if Socony Vacuum can find someone to sell its products in place of John. And with the price wars that are raging way out here now, that will be quite a job. Eileen Nelson is the lucky bride-to-be of Lt. Les Richards, stationed now at Aberdeen, Md.
Smith College is proud that Suzanne Swenson has picked off one of our fine siers. He is none other than John Woods. John completed Thayer and is now at the Univ. of Mass. Suzanne hails from Montclair, N. J. It is great news to hear that Brooks Dodge has finally been persuaded that there is room for a fair lady in his life, in addition to his skis. Ann Schafer said she'd allow skis in the livingroom year around, and is even studying law at Georgetown Univ. to protect Brooks in case he burns up Hells Highway. She graduated from the Madeira School, Smith College, and studied in France. Moving out to the West Coast, we find Johnny (I'm always sun-tanned) Bransten, and Rena Glazier making plans for their marriage. Rena will graduate from Smith in June, and John, after graduating from Stanford Business School, became a lieutenant in the Army (Camp Pickett, Va.). June will see the marriage of Martha Coachman and PeteFleming. Martha hails from Ballston Spa, N. Y., and graduated from Mt. Holyoke and Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. Pete is in the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia, and spent last summer as a medical assistant to a doctor in Labrador.
The list seems endless but we still have a few to report, so grab your hats and come with us to the land of the hazey-dazey newly engageds. Theane Christie and Ted Corsones made known their plans recently. Theane will pick up her pigskin at UCLA next year, while Ted, who, of course, hails from Rutland, Vt., will finish up at Boston Univ. Law School in time for a summer wedding. Just another word on Jim Balderston's engagement and by now wedding (March 6) ... Doris is a member of the Jr. League at Harrisburg, Pa.
It's good news to hear that John Clayton has found himself his bride-to-be. She is Marcia Weeks of Youngstown, N. Y. Marcia studied last summer at Freiburg Univ. in Germany, and will graduate from Skidmore in June. We know you would all be interested in hearing of John's work, but to be honest, we don't know what he's doing. Navy Lt. FranzYeomans on board the USS Bataan was in the area of Japan and Korea on his tour of duty, but we hope he's home now. At any rate, it's good news to hear that Franz has become engaged to Margaret Ann Henderson of Arlington. Va. Marge is a graduate of the Univ. of Florida. Well, gang, you've weathered the storm, and the engagements have been announced. If there are more, please let us hear from you. And now let's glance at...
THE MARRIED SET
Jim Bovaird, Jim Robinson, and NeilCrampton saw to it that Jack Skewes marriage to Connie Boyd went without a flaw back in December. The newly weds are living in Westford, Mass., and we heard that Jack is mighty glad to be home from Korea.
Nels Brown and Margaret Wallace form an all New England team, what with their matrimonial ceremony of last fall. We didn't hear whether Nelson is a fly-boy or not, but he is in the Air Force, and at last reports was residing at Ithaca, N. Y. Bob Shannon and Joan O'Brien followed suit also last fall. From what the spies told us, Bob is with Manning, Maxwell, and Moore (sounds like a bridge club), we believe in Bridgeport, Conn. The East seems to be holding the spot-light for marriages and to extend the roster we And EarlTyler joining up in matrimonial bliss with To-an Flett. Jo-an received her instructions at LaSalle Jr. College, and Earl probably by now has resumed his studies at Boston Univ. Law School, after being released as a lieutenant from the Air Force. If they aren't back in Boston as yet, one could probably find them at the Portland International Airport (Oregon) where Earl has been or is piloting jets.
Al Holt and Marie Johnson were joined in a candlelight ceremony over the holidays past. Johnny Ives rushed up from Conn, to take on the usher's customary attire. After the ceremony, it was Mt. Tremblant and Hells Highway for the moon, and now it's New York City and probably, you can see we aren't too well informed, internship next for Al, who graduates next June from Cornell Med School. Marie, after graduating from the Univ. of Maine, went through the Cornell School of Nursing. A more complete report of JeffMart's marriage tells us that Stephanie Woods wore her mother's wedding dress of ivory satin, a veil of illusion, and carried white orchids and stephanotis. Stephanie, we understand, plays a great deal of tennis, so we can see that this marriage bloomed on the courts, as Jeft is one of our finest tennis players. That's it. If you're not in here and should be, please wing a letter our way.
JUST RAMBLING
Some of our Eastern spies have reported Burgess Taylor as working for Westinghouse Electric at Kearney, N. J. We are very happy to display a proof that Burgess, along with wife, Marjorie, are the proud parents of son, Craig Allan, born November 9, 1952. The picture of Miss Gail Sickler was taken some time ago, but since she will probably be at Smith the same time Craig will be in Hanover, 1974, we know Master Taylor would like to see it. We can imagine Parke and Bernie and Burgess and Marjorie have their hands full.
Since Parke Sickler was kind enough to take time off from Tuck work, and wife Bernie and daughter Gail, we should like to pass on all the news of the Hanover area. Neil Crampton is in retail sales for Scott Paper, and is headquartered in Providence, R. I. Army Jim Robinson painted Hanover red over Carnival, while Joe O'Connor is at Boston Univ. Business School. It's wonderful to hear that SamSpar hawk is back in Hanover, completing his last semester, and that Pete Smart will be out of the Navy in November. Dick Hulbert, BobGoode, Doug Erandsen, and Parke are all that is left of the great '51 delegation at Tuck. Al Karcher and Justin Smith are making the profits grow for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N. Y., and at Harvard Law School we were surprised to see none other than Shorty Allison listed. Harry Johnson should be out of the Army now, Bud Lang is doing banking in New Jersey, and Mike Choukas was last reported doing some coaching at a prep school in New England. That's really a lot of news, and Parke did it only in two pages. You do the same soon; we'd love to hear from any and all of you.
Dave Hilton, who has done such a superlative job as 1951's class agent, is about to get the 1954 campaign under way in our class. Dartmouth deserves the utmost support that you can give, and Dave and his assistants deserve to have your contributions in early. Let's get rolling!
Easter greetings from the big Easter bunny in Minnesota!
