It can't be that we've jostled and squirmed in the reins for another year, but here it is June already, and we are about to sit and bask in the sun for another summer. This article would not be possible without your great support, and our thanks go to you for it. Drop us a card over the summer season, between frolics in the tall, cool grass.
We have a good deal of ground to cover, so jump on the bandwagon and let's see what we can see. Sorry we sorta got scooped on DickPugh's marriage to Nan Bannon on Feb. 27 - we mean the picture but no details in last month's issue. The joyful affair went something like this - they were married in Norwich, Vt. After honeymooning in Nassau, they returned to Norfolk, Va., where Dick is an ensign with the Navy - we never thought they would get him. Nan graduated from Milwaukee-Downer and Smith College, and made her debut in Milwaukee. It was great news to hear of the marriage of Franz Yeomans and Margaret Ann Henderson in Arlington, Va. Margaret, as we mentioned earlier, graduated from the Univ. of Florida and so far as we know, Franz is still packing a sea bag for the navy.
Maribel Tucker was married this spring to Harold Johnson. Maribel is another suntanned Florida coed, since she attended Stetson University. We're not quite sure what Harold is doing, but he is in East Orange, N. J., has completed service as an Air Force 2nd Lieut., and should be coming out of the fog of a Bermuda honeymoon by now. We don't know which came first, the bride or the new job, but news on Joe Welch showed up all at once. Joe was recently married to Donna Oberlin of Akron, Ohio. Donna graduated from the Univ. of Ohio. Joe's new job is with Chase and Lunt, Inc. of Newburyport, Mass., a real estate and insurance firm. Joe, of course, was in the Army as a psychologist, administering the armed forces qualification tests. Prior to that time, he was in the insurance field, so it's not a new game to good old Joe.
Congratulations to Al Creham who was wed in April to Bernadine Dorman. The gay city was Paterson, N. J., but outside of that, your scribe hasn't received the details. On March 6, Jim Balderston didn't have time to shake, quiver, or scowl because brother Bill, JeffO'Connell and Joe Lindner were close at hand as best man and ushers at Jim's marriage to Dori Lang. The wedding took place at Harrisburg, Pa., and the Virgin Islands swallowed up the couple for a delightful honeymoon.
Congratulations are in order for Eileen Nelson and Leslie Richard, married Feb. 27 in Westbury, N. Y. Eileen was at that time and may still be with the Silver Burdett Publishing Co. in New York. Les may now be overseas, as he left S. D. Warren Co. sometime ago in a Lieutenant's uniform. Nancy Bartz took on the name of Mrs. Ray Myers some time ago. And both are tickled to death that Ray has finally finished up his two and a half year stint with the Signal Corps. New York City is now the official homesite of Mr. and Mrs. RaeBrown. Rae married Mary Ann Weller, who has not only had dramatic experience on the New York stage, but also sports a husband who is a free lance artist in New York. We've heard so much about Floyd Parks recently, we can't remember whether or not we related his marriage to Lorine Anderson on Jan. 16. Some further details arriving tell us that Lorine has a Wellesley sheepskin and a Phi Beta Kappa key. Floyd is at Johns Hopkins.
The following were seen in Hanover recently, and although we are not sure whether or not they were there to just gaze at America's finest college campus or to square an old debt with Capt. Gaudreau we certainly wish we had been in their shoes. They were Andy Timmerman, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. Nason Hurowitz and Mr. and Mrs. DonalMorse.
Some of the following by now, perhaps, have reached the marriage altar, but all we know is what we hear, and it goes something like this: Kent MacKenzie finally talked Josephine Williams into saying yes, and even agreeing on a summer wedding. Jo went to Penn State and is now at Michigan State, while at last reports, Kent was finished with two years of Air Force duty. Nancy Nattemer has consented to Kendall May's proposals. Nancy has a fine store of knowledge from Wellesley and Grinnell College, and did graduate work at Stanford, where Ken also took postgraduate courses. Incidentally, he was in Korea for two years, but exact future plans have not been beamed our way.
It's great news that Lt. Drew Matthews of the Marine Corps and Vivian Olson of Light-foot, Va., were engaged this spring. The marriage is planned for June 12. In early September, a marriage will unite Dave Emerson and Shirley Armstrong of Houston, Texas. Dave is now doing graduate work at the Univ. of Michigan, where his fiancee is also studying. Engagement congratulations to Lang Palmer and Marion Lott. Lang served with the 45th Infantry Division in Korea, and is now affiliated with the Chase National Bank in New York. Nina Hall, Colby Jr. graduate of 1952, has announced her engagement to CharlieGeilich. The bride-to-be will graduate from Wheaton College in June, and we believe Charlie is somewhere in the leather and tanning industry.
That's the engaged crowd for this month. Congratulations to you, one and all!
Lieut. Dave Krivitsky is taking special training in the mission of a Naval Beach Group (sounds like professional beachcombing) at the Navy's Amphibious Base at Norfolk, Va. And we have just received word that Dr. Charlie Whitlock has been selected for a naval internship. Charlie received his M.D. from George Washington Univ., and is one of a small group selected throughout the country. Mish Cohen has wended his way to Magdalen College, Oxford, and is a Sheldon Traveling Fellow from Harvard.
Hip hooray to Jean and Craig Murphy! Their son Craig Stevens was born Jan. 19 and weighed in at 9 lbs. 3 ozs. After Craig got a yardstick on the young man, he found the length to be 22".
By now Navy ensign Harvey Goldstock has completed the course of instruction at the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School at Bayonne, N. J., and our latest Eastern source of news reports that Bill Duke has been appointed a salesman in the New York office of Time and Life. Wilson Boynton is now representing the Conn. Mutual Life Insurance Co., in Rutland, Vt., and was released last fall from service as an Air Force 2nd Lieut. By now Wes Blake has graduated from basic training at Fort Dix; as you will recall, Wes received his Master's from McGill. Colin Raubeson jumps into the news as a bio-chemist and lecturer on the practical aspects on nutrition recently in Sanford, Maine. Colin has done postgraduate work at Harvard and MIT and it is interesting to note his recent lecture is sponsored by Irons and Moore of Boston, national food distributors. Operating out of Harrisburg, Pa., as a fire lines special agent for the Fireman's Fund is John Hatch.
Don't do too much skiing this summer, and don't forget, the greatest support in the world is your check to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund. Think over the great advantages that Dartmouth has to offer, and if you have not already done so, drop her a check now.
Have a fine summer, and do drop us a card. See you in the fall.
