Yes, Virginia, there is a Saint Patrick and he's got a keg full of bock beer. If you ye been traveling the martini or Scotch mist route of late, you'd better guzzle a few steins of malt now in preparation for the varsity crew races at the reunion tent next June. Meanwhile, you'd be surprised to learn we have an injun who is . . .
WALKING THE LAST MILE. Since neigh- bors no doubt know all about the blissful subjects of the news story which broke last December 8 in upstate New YorK, we'll have to assume you do too and relate essentials only. Prospective bride is Miss Barbara Hess of Cedar Rapids, lowa. Groom-to-be is Lewis Veghte Jr., at pres- ent a resident of the nation's capital but previously from Canajoharie. Barbara at- tended Duke, but neither her nor Buds current business connections were Ustea. Isn't the swain chief legislative assistant to one of our Congressmen? Or are we out o date? Bud says he'll probably make reunion. Anyhow, congrats!
RATTLE PRATTLE. Lest the old traditions fail, Bob and Kitty Waterman have completed a family of five with the birth of James Larned last December 12. Ine lad made his appearance at 5:53 a.m. so wouldn't be late for breakfast in Davenport. He weighed in at eight pounds and ounce. James, that is, not Bob. Looks like another lawyer type.
YULE LOG. It was nice to toast some marshmallows of memory over the yule log recently. Here are a few tidbits we savored via Christmas greetings: Dave and Barb Grinnell pulled a switch selling their house and renting another instead of vice versa in Plainfield, N. J. Kiddies include six-year-old Jeff and fiver Suzi. Reunion? Don't know. Charlie and Dodie Abbe admit to five jcids and a beagle. They are planning on being in Hanover for the conclave. How about you? . . . Bill and Helen Hawkins were there last summer. Must have misread the calendar, or maybe they can make the trek two years in a row. Hope so! . . . Nev and Valli Chamberlain extended greetings from Port Washington, Long Island. They are on the definite list for reunion. . . . Gerry andGinny Sarno have put down roots, they hope, at Stanwich Lane, Greenwich, after ten moves in twelve years. Maybe the people at Beth Steel ought to clue Gerry that it is almost as easy to pay the mortgage as it is to continue hopping around. Or is it? Since they'll be reuning, we'll check in lune. . . . Bill Pulley expects to journey Hanover- ward. Last fall he attended an international conference on dry cleaning as well as getting very involved in politics (he is chairman of the Republican Central Committee in Butler County, Ohio). To top it off, he has just built a new house! Bill and Martha Lee have seen Tom and Jean Sours in Columbus but haven't yet convinced them to make the scene this summer. Bill says Gordon Hood is A-OK jobwise as partner in law firm and definitely a reunioner. . . . Other Rot-C ad- vocates will wish to join us in hoisting a salute to new two-and-a-half-striper reservist Andy Wilde when we drop anchor at the tent next lune. Good show, old shoe!
GRAPEVINE REPORTS. Definitely on the definitely coming list is George Singer, re- cently made assistant manager for Shield and Company's White Plains office. He's got an M.B.A. from Penn (1952), has been with Shields since '57, conducts courses in adult education (security analysis) in Tarrytown, lives in Bedford Village. .. . Last October Joizey papers reported that Bill Broadbent of Larchmont was named director of ad- vanced underwriting of The Guardian Life Insurance Co. of America. Bill's been man- ager of advanced underwriting since 1963, garnered an LL.B. from Columbia. Reune? Thou bet! . . . Dave Sleeper is a prof of eco- nomics and marketing at the University of South Florida, Tampa. .. . Max Welborn was made an assistant professor of history at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, last fall. Max had been at Ohio State for four years while working on .his doctorate. He's also taught at Baylor, Paul Quinn College in Waco, and Denison. Master's came from Penn in 1952. ... Among the ministers, Dick Peterson has been appointed co-pastor of the Waldoboro (Me.) Methodist Church Circuit. He received bachelor of divinity and Ph.D. degrees from Duke in 1961 and last year, taught Greek there from '62 till '64. There are three boys and a daughter at home to provide subject for sermons. . . . Last summer Larry Huntley left Rhode Is- land to take up duties as minister for edu- cation at the First Reformed Church in Schenectady. . . . You'll recall the sad news of two years ago concerning the passing of Rev. Joseph Sullivan who graduated with 1950. Recently Baker Library, through your generous donations to the Class Book Me- morial, added a copy of Robert Donald Thornton's "James Currie: The Entire Stranger and Robert Burns" to its special Robert Burns collection in memory of Rev. Sullivan.
GALA GATHERING. Since a complete blurb of the blast will emanate from the Reunion Committee (all of whom plan to attend!), we'll try not to steal too much thunder from chairman Rick Miller and publicist Alex Hoffman. You should know, though, that lots of children will be brought to Hanover if you've given up trying to find a sitter. Also, about a third of us will arrive Thursday. Why delay? Take an extra day!
There just may be a charter flight with United from San Francisco with stops en route as needed to load the plane. Interested? Contact your regional rep. Who's that? Well, Dave Bull at the Golden Gate end, Cal Bauer in Big D (Dallas that is), and Bill Pulley, Swede Swenson, Fred Gamble, and Dixie Vaughn for the Midwest. If you live southeastward, get hold of LudTruscott in Washington. Not that far? Try Ben Johnson in New Jersey. New Yorkers will be prodded by Dick Echikson and Gerry Sarno, New Englanders by FrankHarrington, Bob Ayres, and Ed Tuck. All of these regional chairmen report to Bill Turino. If you don't know where they hang their hats, drop a card to Bill at 27 Dusenberry Road, Bronxville, N. Y.
Know who else is going to be there? TonyAmbrose and Don Ayres and a whole raft of guys before you get to Ed Zebrowski,Bill Ziegler, and Dick Ziesing. That's all of the Z's. How about the you's???
So long for now. See ya here once more before Easter, twice before the Indianapolis 500, thrice before reunion.
