ROY E. LARSEN, president of Time, Inc., and chairman of the National Citizens Commission for the Public Schools, will deliver the address at Dartmouth's 185th Commencement on Sunday, June 13. Some 6000 persons are expected to be present at the combined Commencement and Baccalaureate exercises when, for the second year, parents, faculty members, guests and some 570 graduating seniors will assemble on the lawn in front of Baker Library.
Mr. Larsen, a graduate of Harvard in 1921, became interested in public education in 1946 when he was asked to head a group of laymen in a study of the postwar problems, arising from inflation and greater birthrates, which confronted the nation's public schools. Under his direction the Citizens Commission was formed in 1949 and has been instrumental in arousing nationwide concern for the improvement of public schools, at the community and local levels. Mr. Larsen is an Overseer of Harvard University.
Milton S. Kramer '54 of New York City, editor-in-chief of The Dartmouth and recently named a Rhodes Scholar, will give the valedictory address for the Class of 1954. President Dickey will give a brief farewell address to the seniors and will read the honorary degree citations.
The Commencement and Baccalaureate exercises will climax a weekend of activities which begin with Class Day exercises in the Bema on Friday and include the luncheon and 100th meeting of the General Association of Alumni of Dartmouth College on Saturday, as well as reunion programs for the Classes of 1889, 1894, 1899, 1904 and 1929.
At Tuck School graduation exercises June 6, the speaker will be Dr. Dexter M. Keezer, economist and Vice-President of the McGraw-Hill Publishing Co.
