The 1954 Alumni Fund, which ended June 30th, set new records both in dollar total and participation. With an undetermined number of gifts yet to be tabulated, figures on July 6 show that a total of 18,200 alumni, parents and friends have contributed $692,457 to exceed the goal of $600,000.
It appears now that a minimum of 67% of all Dartmouth alumni have given to the fund, and it is estimated that when all contributions postmarked June 30 are received, the participation figure will be close to 68% - a new high in percentage for the second consecutive year.
The Dartmouth Parents campaign was also a success with 942 parents contributing $46,554 to the Fund, an increase of 171 contributors over last year.
A record number of six classes - 1915, 1921, 1923, 1924, 1925 and 1927 - gave over $20,000 each. For the second year in a row the class of 1925 has received more than any other class — $23,837. Three classes - 1935, 1946 and 1950 - had more than 500 contributors each.
In a letter sent to the 1662 Alumni Fund workers Roger C. Wilde '21, Fund chairman, said, "Congratulations on a perfectly magnificent job! As a fitting celebration of this Fortieth Anniversary of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund, you have scored an all-time high in both participation and total dollars contributed. You have met a real challenge and achieved a great victory. You have earned the gratitude of the College and the thanks of all our alumni."
