On July 1, Will F. Nicholson was inaugu- rated as the 33rd mayor of Denver, Colo., in a ceremony witnessed on the spot by several hundred persons and via television by thousands of others. "Big Nick," as Will is known in Denver, was the winner June 21 in the city's first run-off election and subsequently resigned as state senator and as president of a real estate firm.

President Eisenhower nominated Sterry Waterman May 13 to be United States circuit judge of the Second District. It is a great honor to be named to the second highest court in the land and Sterry has the unanimous backing of Vermont's Congressional delegation, whose spokesman, Senator Aiken, praised Sterry as one of the outstanding lawyers of Vermont and the New England region. He was further honored by Mr. Eisenhower when he was included in a group of Republicans present at the reception and dinner tendered the President in June at the Mountain Top Inn, Chittenden, Vt. Sterry and Frances were overnight guests of the Presidential party at the Inn.

On July 25, Congress confirmed the promotion of Walter I. Miller to the rank of major general in the United States Air Force. HerbWest was elected president of the Thoreau Society at its annual meeting on July 9. RexMalmquist took office on July ! as president of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference after serving several years as its vice president.

Dr. Richard P. Stetson has been appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. Dick was on active duty with the Army Medical Corps from 1942 to 1946. Besides his private practice, he now serves as Assistant Visiting Physician and Chief of the Second Medical Service of the Boston City Hospital and Associate Visiting Physician of the Medical Service of the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital.

Frederick W. Buswell recently became a member of the 25-Year Club of the Union and New Haven Trust Company. Holder of a law degree from Northeastern College, Bus became a vice president of the Trust Company in 1952. He is a senior officer of the Investment Division and works with the Trust Committee of the directors in the management of investments.

Prof. Wayne Shirley, previously dean of Pratt Institute's Library School, has been appointed by Finch College to serve as its reference and chief librarian. A nationally known library expert, Wayne is a member of the American Library Association, the Library Public Relations Council, the Archons of Colophon and Rembrandt Club.

Cynthia, daughter of Spenny and MarjeSmith, became the bride of Alan G. Sharp on May 21 at a ceremony in Faith Congregational Church, Springfield, Mass., followed by a reception at the Longmeadow Community House.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar R. Rice Jr. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Beatrice, to Glenn J. Leahy. Beatrice attended Greenbriar College and Katherine Gibbs School. Glenn is a graduate of Babson Institute.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley P. Miner have announced the engagement of their daughter Catherine to Ronald Thomas Murphy. Catherine was graduated from Mount Holyoke College in June and the groom-to-be was graduated from Dartmouth.

The engagement of Margaret LeBaron Leith to John E. P. Borden has been announced by her parents, Prof. Eaton Leith of Bowdoin College and Mrs. Leith. Margaret is a graduate of Northfield School for Girls and Wheaton College. John is a graduate of Wesleyan University.

Wilbur W. Bullen Jr. and Jean Gordan Grant were married August 13 in the United Church of Canada, Corner Brook, Newfoundland. His parents, accompanied by daughter Emily who served as one of the bride's attendants, flew up for the happy occasion.

The class is indebted to Jim Hamilton and his assistant agents for a task well done. Again we achieved our dollar goal in the Alumni Fund campaign but not without real effort on the part of the workers.

I am happy to announce that Len Morrissey has accepted appointment as chairman of our reunion committee. Make your plans now to return to Hanover next June for that opportunity to be together again.
