A special Dartmouth number of the Hartlord Gazette was issued and circulated as of November 27, 1915.
The resignation of Ernest Fox Nichols, then president of Dartmouth College, was announced in that November issue. President Nichols announced his resignation at the Vesper service in Webster Hall. It was to take effect in the following Tune.
The following persons were suggested as the next president: Rev. Ozora S. Davis '89; Dr. J. M. Gile '87; E. M. Hopkins '01; Craven Laycock '96; C. D. Adams '77; H. E. Keyes '00; rror. F. H. Dixon; Dr. Fitch, president of Andover Theological Seminary; E. K. Hall 92; Governor-Elect Samuel McCall '74; Ex-President Taft and others. Ernest M. Hopkins was finally chosen. A better choice could not have been made.
