That the September meeting at Bonnie Oaks, reported last month, was a success has been evidenced by letters received both from those who attended and those who had expected to be with us, but couldn't. For example, Vic Smith, who was there, wrote as follows:

"Irene and I are still thinking about the wonderful time we had at Bonnie Oaks. It certainly was a very fine party and all I can say is that I wish they could come more often than once a year. It certainly was nice being with you and Helen and all the rest of the gang and I think that parties like that are a great help in maintaining a close-knit feeling amongst those who attend. It is unfortunate that more cannot be there."

Speaking of the weekend, Mose Hutchins simply says, "I think we all enjoyed it tremendously." Walt Sisson, who had to cancel his reservation because of illness, writes, "We certainly missed being with you and the gang at Bonnie Oaks. These old and new friendships within the class mean a lot to Ruth and me." The Bill Sewalls and Don O'Learys both have confirmed their intention to join the group next fall and more of you should plan to do the same thing.

Vic Smith, our treasurer, suggests that if you are reading this column and have not yet sent him your check for class dues, that you stick a book-mark in the MAGAZINE while you write out that check and mail it first thing in the morning.

In the November 1954 issue of this MAGAZINE I reported that Bill Sew all's son John '42 had been stricken with polio. I now am very happy to report that John's condition has improved to such an extent that he was able to return to his home at Warwick, Va., on October 1 and went back to work on a part-time basis on the 19th. As these notes are typed Bill and Sally are with John and his family, doing things around John's house that need to be done before winter sets in.

It's always good to hear from the men on the West Coast so to start off I give you an interesting letter from Sam White:

"Had the pleasure of attending the Alumni Regional Conference in San Francisco early in October. The College really sent out their first team, headed by President Dickey along with four other top members of his staff. Jack Baer and GeorgeCurrier swelled the '17 delegation.

"Jack and his wife, enjoying life in their Menlo Park home down near Palo Alto, seemed in the pink of condition and I had a very pleasant visit with them. George and his family, also living down the Peninsula in Burlingame, are both going strong and in good form, if you overlook George's expanding waistline. He has just gone on the retired list of the Naval Reserve after a very active career in that outfit.

"Lou and I have enjoyed a three months' session with Barbara and our two small grandchildren, which has taken care of our extra-curricular activity for the late summer and early fall. Our best to you and Helen."

Writing on October 14 Walt Sisson said:

"Have been at hospital and home for just four weeks, but I am on the mend and expect to have a few hours at the office per day until Ruth, Pete and I leave for Florida about November 15. Think it time I took a good long vacation, at least until the first of April. Will let you know where we locate and possibly some of our '17 friends will be kind enough to drop in and say 'Hello' during the winter. Our daughter Polly (Sylvia) presented us with another granddaughter this week. We now have four granddaughters (all welcome) and expect son Joe and wife to present us with ? by December 1. If this one is a girl we will have a good basketball team."

Speaking of Florida, my scouts tell me that in addition to the Sissons, numerous other '17ers are soon to head in that direction, including the Howard Stockwells, Hank Loudons,Bob Scotts, Mudge Mudgetts, Gil Swetts, and though no direct word has been received from the Len Sheas, it's a good bet that they will join the rest.

Late in October, Bill Eaton sent us a note on '17ers who had appeared in Hanover:

"Slats Baxter hit town for a few days and we watched some football practice. Karl Stillman is here for his usual month in Hanover. Don O'Leary and his 99% were here overnight and we spent a pleasant evening together. Perc Streeter was at the Inn for dinner one night, but no room so he moved on. X can't tell how many were here for the Harvard game. I spent some time with HalWeeks and Ralph Carpenter. Understand BunnyHolden and Skinny Sturtevant were here but I missed them."

The party at Bob and Anita Scott's following the Yale game was unquestionably the best of the long series of similar parties the Scotts have so generously given. One of the high spots was the piano playing by Arch Earle that provided an excuse for what those participating chose to call close harmony. A good crowd showed up including, in addition to Arch, already mentioned, Ralph and Evelyn Britton, Bunny and Millie Holden, Spique and Ruby Maclntyre, Gil and Marie Swett, Art and Emily Stout and their guests Brown and Helen Dickinson '32, Len and Sally Shea, Skinny and Dorothy Sturtevant, Tom and Ellen Cotton and their guests, Gene and Lucile Towler and guests, Jim and Ruth Montgomery, Wendell and Eleanor Reycroft, their daughter Judy and her date, Roy Hill '55, Gordon and Muriel Tracy, Elliott and Florence Mudgett and their daughter and son-inlaw, Al and Doris McEwan, Frank Lagay and guest, and finally, your Secretary and Helen. The following were seen in the Yale Bowl: Jack and Dodo Saladine, Barney and, presumably Adele Thielscher, and Houghton and Ann Carr. Too bad these folks were not able to attend the Scotts' party and enjoy the post-game fun.
