Dr. Thorndike Saville '14, Dean of the College of Engineering of New York University, has recently added two new honors to an impressive list. He was awarded the 75 th Anniversary Medal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers on November 17 at the Society's annual meeting in Chicago; and last month was elected president of the Engineers Council for Professional Development at the annual meeting held in Toronto. Made up of a conference of nine major engineering societies in the United States and Canada, the organization is concerned with the accreditation of programs in engineering colleges, and broader aspects of engineering education.

Dr. Saville is also president of the Engineers Joint Council, the first man to hold both offices simultaneously. This group, as representative of the 170,000 members of eight constituent societies, coordinates activity in the engineering profession.

Dr. Saville received the C.E. degree from Thayer School in 1915. He holds graduate degrees from Harvard and M.I.T. and the honorary Doctorate of Engineering from Clarkson College of Technology. In 1949 he was appointed sanitary engineering member of the National Advisory Council of the United States Public Health Service. He also has served as president of the American Society for Engineering Education.
