The Dartmouth wrestling club, which has been working out daily at Corey Ford's private gymnasium, opened its season by losing a close match at Amherst College 20-14. The eight matches were split evenly, but the Lord Jeffs scored more heavily on pins and won the match. Harvey Weiss is wrestling at 123-pounds for Dartmouth, Everett Lindgren at 130-pounds, Tony Bodine at 137-pounds, Dan Searby at 147- pounds, John Palmer at 157, Fred Pitzner at 167-pounds, Bob Bickell at 177 and John Kropper in the heavyweight class.

Donald R. Thomas of Needham, Mass. was elected captain of the Dartmouth freshman hockey team following the frosh team's most recent victory, a 9-1 decision over LaSalle Academy. Thomas is a defenseman and was co-captain of the Needham High School hockey team as well as a standout player at the Northwood School. He was a member of the All Bay State first team for two seasons before entering Dartmouth.
