The Big Green teams had at best a mediocre winter season, with the basketball team winning 12 and losing 14 (an improvement over last year), the hockey team winning 7 and losing 14 (also an improvement), the swimming team posting a record of 6 wins against 5 losses (worse than a year ago), track with 3 wins against 2 defeats (same), and squash with 6 wins and 5 losses (worse). The cumulative totals for all varsity winter teams show 34 victories against 40 defeats, which is probably a little below what was expected when the season began.
As far as league competition went, the Dartmouth teams fared no better. In the Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League, the Indians ranked fifth with 5 wins against 7 defeats. The Dartmouth hockey team wound up in the Pentagonal League cellar for the second straight year with a league record of 1 win and 6 defeats (last winter they dropped all 7 league encounters). Even the Dartmouth swimming team fell below its usual standing when it wound up in sixth place in the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League with 2 wins against 5 losses.
