While it is of small concern to the world at large, we might take a stick or two of type here to pronounce that the scene has changed for the fast expiring secretary. Yup, we're moving from the peace and quiet of Boston town to bicarb valley and the wonders of Madison Avenue. In fact, businesswise, we've moved and now commute on weekends. Pending a shuffle of real estate, we expect by April our little RFD box will sit on the side of a dirt road in Wilton, Conn.
Just phoned Reunion Chairman Bob Ingersoll and learned from the good doctor that he is concocting a prescription for June 17-19 the likes of which no man twenty years north of graduation has ever filled! Actually, Bob had just hove in from a big Bonspiel in Quebec where he and his fellow broom-pushers were curled to a 3 and 4 decision. Said he bumped into Mutt Ray '37 at the Montreal airport on the way down. Bob mentioned, too, that Harry Coronis was curling with his Nashua club at the big Centennial Bonspiel held by the New York Caledonian Club. Doubtless Dick Knight also has been living the life of MacTavish during our recent frigid spell, he being another curler of talent and poise.
On January 8 wee Helen Mary Higbee earned for pappy Ed Higbee the title of the oldest new father in the class . . . Ed lost the billing on January 27 when Alumni Fund top sergeant Pete Fitzherbert, with an assist from young Tom Edward, took over the honors. Pete has the cup all etched, polished and packed ready for mailing. Who's next?
Re the Alumni Fund, Pete tells us he has the greatest confidence that this year will beat all records. He's got a swell gang of assistants fined up and figures we'll smash all records by reunion time . . . promises he'll go over Wilder Dam on a syrup can for all to see if we lick Ed Offutt and his gang of '35 thieves!
The Bridgeport, Conn., Alumni Club boasts a new prexy in the person of Ray Builter, long Arrive in Dartmouth affairs in that area. To anybody wondering whatever became of BillPounder, be it known that the genial red-head is at the Quartermaster Research and Development Command at Natick, Mass., and lives happily in Wellesley with Mrs. Pounder, Ellen, 5, and Paula, 3.
New Britain, Conn., gals had a good cry when word got out that Howie Rogers will soon sign the long-term contract . . . Co-signer will be Barbara Anne Laurin of New Brighton, N. Y. Barb is a Katy Gibbs grad and has studied at Hunter College and Columbia University Howie, you'll recall, is secretary-treasurer of both the Armored Car Service of New Britain and the Rogers Recreation Company of Conn.
"The Ethyl Corporation has appointed FredWarne as their general counsel; Fred lives in Yonkers N. Y., and has offices close enough to our new beat for it to be entirely possible we'll see the rascal some one of these days before June U. S. Steel's Consolidated Western Steel Division in San Francisco has just named Ken Lieber as engineering vice president.
Those of you in the environs of New Orleans can find Hunt Sutherland in the chem lab at American Cyanamid Company down on Madrid Street. . . . Sales promoter Dick Dorrance has, like many another professional man, set up shop in his home. To do same Dick merely purchased a building on 37th Street, N.Y.C. The household Dorrance, consisting of his very attractive wife Nina (editor of True Story) and little Miss Nina (accomplished actress at 11 months), occupies the upper floors. The lower levels are reserved for industry, offices and sales ideas. Dick tells us that one of his clients, Ricky Ricardo, is as capable a business hombre as he is a straight for Lucy.
Checked with the Hanover Inn the other day and found that several brethren had recently stopped over, unwilling to wait for June, such as Bob Blades, Brad Chase, BobPaterson, Dick Treadway and Budd Schulberg.
Don't hold back on the Alumni Fund. Frankly, we can't wait to see Pete shoot the Wilder rapidsl!
