When The Hitch-Hiker, the new movie thriller, hits your town, tell your wife, if you lived in Middle Mass. freshman year, that the star of the drama is Bill Talman, the guy who lived up in 401. You'll be seeing and hearing more of Bill on the film tracks of the future.

Took in a meeting for the kick-off of the Alumni Fund in Boston a couple of weeks ago. Pete Fitzherbert came down from Maine, fording a couple of swollen rivers (flood time, remember?); Brint Schorer came up from Hartford and Dick Knight, Frank Weston and StanOsgood came from the local environs. Stan, an old Bostonian, returned to these parts about two years ago from La Jolla, Calif. He's a researcher in psychology and has been working on strictly hush-hush .stuff for so many years he feels like a T-man. At present he labs it up at M.I.T. and keeps his fingers crossed that he won't be lugged back to California with which crowd he still hushes remotely. Stan brought tidings that Jack Matzinger is doing a capable job of keeping the male gentry well groomed from the stock in his shoppe in La Jolla.
Speaking of the Alumni Fund, the season is on again! Dartmouth has always confounded everyone familiar with fund work since such a high percent of alumni donate. Princeton took the needle this year and has equalled our percentage participation figure. You know the answer to that —more participants. Frankly we, as a class, have room for improvement on the participation score. Let's give Pete Fitzherbert and Cos. a chance for a little glory. Junior may think someone is syphoning his piggy bank and ma may want a new pair of specs when she sees her allowance, but the easiest, most gentlemanly way is peeling from your own mad money. Leave us moider da reckad!!
Thanks to Joe Millimet in Manchester, N. H., for a gay note in which he says: "After three girls (Madlyn, 9, Lisa, 5, Rebecca, 2) we are delighted with our first boy, Peter Joseph, a March 10 event. Elizabeth is fine and after four children is even prettier than when I married her 11 years ago. Peter weighed 9 lbs. 21/4 oz. at birth and the doctor said it was the first baby he ever delivered who was bigger than the father."... Don't let it worry you, Joe, you'll start to gain now.
Bumped into Andy Schmidt on a rainy street the other day in Springfield, Mass. Between drops we got a chance to check on SpikeVarney and Jim Stephens whom Andy had seen recently. As for Andy himself, he's built up a substantial business for the Hampden Savings Bank as head of the loan department. ... Spotted Bob Walker in a Boston bistro recently. Bob is a doctor in Brattleboro, Vt., and was taking a couple of days leave from his practice to enjoy the flower show with his wife and son Bob, whose tenth birthday was also rung in on the celebration. Bob sees Marty Brown occasionally and indicated that Dr. Bob Bennett was being looked at squarely by the Navy. According to our recollection Bob is an obstetrician —oh well, guess he could handle most anything.
With headquarters in Casablanca, DaveSanderson has been named general manager of L'Agglomere, S. A., a subsidiary of the Armstrong Cork Company. Dave joined Armstrong in 1936 and prior to his present appointment was general sales manager of the Spanish subsidiary.... While standing in the lobby of the Gorham Company in Providence a while back a chap tapped us on the shoulder. Upon swinging around we were face to face with Bob Tyler. As reported only a couple of months ago, Bob is sales manager for Athol Mfg. Co. and Gorham is one of Bob's good customers. He reports seeing Charlie Brooks quite regularly. Charlie heads up the Conant Ball Company in Gardner, Mass., and makes some of the finest furniture you'd ever want to own; from all we can gather Charlie has more back orders than most companies have orders.
Caught a newspaper account of a social gettogether sponsored by Marion and Lew Marsten at their San Francisco house. Lew has apparently developed into a pretty fair chess player as well as a noted host.... According to a welcome letter from Len Florsheim we'll be seeing him later in the year in Boston. In the meantime Len reports he's purchased control of the R. R. Robertson Co. of Chicago, a pioneer firm in the graphic arts field, making cameras and allied equipment. Says Len: "It has been my desire to get into a mechanical business, because this is the sort of thing that most intrigues me. Believe me, I picked one! Since joining the fold, I have been dizzy with the technical jargon involved, but the possibilities of the business fascinate me. On the personal side, we still have the same number of daughters. Increase has been in dogs. By last count we have five Labradors, plus a pup almost whelped, and a dachshund for laughs."
Reminder... write that check for the Fund.
