By Dave Camerer '37. NewYork: A. S. Barnes, 1954. $1.00.

In this small but profusely illustrated volume, Dave Camerer '37 turns from football to horse racing and recounts the tale of Pounditout, a horse.

Pounditout, in case you hadn't heard, was given to a sports writer by the owner of one of America's best-known stables. As a matter of fact, the sports writer, who reported on the vagaries of horse flesh for the New YorkWorld Telegram and The Sun, selected Pounditout as a colt and had him named in a contest sponsored by the paper to which 50,000 loyal readers submitted names. Needless to say, many of these 50,000 fans also followed Poundy's race track career with a great deal of interest and, what's more, probably a good deal of money.

Sad to relate, Poundy never ran in the money, and finally was turned over to Gene Leone, the Broadway restaurateur - not for hash 'or horseburgers, although it must be admitted many felt this a just fate for such a nag, but to live out his days on Leone's farm in upper New York. This is the story which Mr. Camerer spins in fable form, while the delightful illustrations in full color by Lenny Hollreiser perfectly complement the tale.

My youngsters, aged three and eight, still prefer it to most of the television programs. It's also nice to find a story where the hero turns out to be something less than a winner, even if it is only a horse.

Well recommended for sick friends, children of almost any age group, and racing fans who didn't lose money on Pounditout.
