The appointment of Guilford M. Joyner as assistant coach of track at Dartmouth was announced by Red Rolfe, director of athletics, in October. Joyner comes to Dartmouth from William and Mary, where he was head coach of the track and cross-country squads. He succeeds Edmund Styrna who, after eight years at Dartmouth, became head track and crosscountry coach at the University of Maine in September. Joyner received his A.B. and M.A. degrees from the University of North Carolina. He was a high jumper on the North Carolina team for four seasons and captain of the 1949 team which captured the Southern Conference championship. Joyner captured the Southern Conference high jump title in both 1948 and 1949. He is a paratroop veteran of World War II and is married with one daughter. He will assist head coach Ellie Noyes in both track and cross country.
