This has been a disappointing season to Coach Ellie Noyes, although not unexpected. The Indian runners dropped the first two meets - a triangular meet with Columbia and Yale and a dual meet with Brown - largely because o£ the absence of Captain Doug Brew. Harvard was just too powerful for the Indians, although Brew finished second behind the Crimson captain, Pete Reider. Harvard bunched four runners behind Brew before the next Big Green harrier finished and that was the meet.

The Indians won their first victory of the season by defeating Boston University in Hanover 25-34. Doug Brew finished first with a time of 26:09, the third fastest time for the home course. Pete Marshall came in third for the Indians with Dick Nau sixth, then Tom Lennox, Mike Nolan and Don Burkhardt right behind.

The following week Captain Doug Brew was the only Dartmouth runner to finish well in the Heptagonal meet. Brew came in fourth in a field of 69 runners, with his time being 28 seconds better than his previous year's time and ten seconds better than the winning time in 1955. Brew is the only runner going to the IC4A meet this fall.

Going into the 1956 season Coach Noyes had three seniors and four juniors as the nucleus for his team. One of the seniors withdrew to pursue pre-med studies. All four juniors left, two in transfers to other colleges, one for scholastic reasons and another for personal reasons. This left Coach Noyes with two seniors (Brew and Burkihardt) and a handful of sophomores. These sophomores developed rapidly, especially Tom Lennox who had never run cross country before this year, but obviously it was not the team it might have been.
