1956 DARTMOUTH PARENTS COMMITTEE REPORT

Dartmouth parents joined with the alumni in record number in contributing to the 1956 campaign. 1,298 parents gave $55,795 in 1956 to establish a new contributor and dollar total for the sixth consecutive year. The contributor figure was believed to be a new record for parent giving at any college or university in the nation. The outstanding progress made by the Dartmouth Parents campaigns is summarized below:

Contributors Gifts 1951 359 $28,184 1952 644 44,120 1953 771 46,279 1954 949 46,784 1955 1,050 50,596 1956 1,298 55,795

Parent gifts to the 1956 campaign ranged from five dollars to over $1,000, and averaged $44. Nearly one-third of the parents of undergraduates and recent graduates participated in the Fund.

Much of the success of our campaign was due to the unstinting efforts of the 55 members of our Dartmouth Parents Committee. 38 of these representing all sections of the nation served on the National Committee and 17 served on a special New York Regional Committee headed by Moe Naitove. My sincere thanks to each of these Committee members for their magnificent help and enthusiasm.

Each year Dartmouth parents continue to play an increasingly important role in the success of the Alumni Fund. I am confident that we will continue to help the Dartmouth alumni in providing those annual resources which go to strengthen Dartmouth in service to our sons and those to come.
