When class notes for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE become thin or scarce or nil, the Class Secretary is at fault - he may be 90 or more, have reduced eyesight, go to few evening parties, have few class notes except about himself. When we graduated, there were 100 young men starting on promising careers. Some used to say " '87 was the best class ever graduated." That grand class has been reduced to three or four members.
Your Secretary has been notified of the sudden death of classmate John Dana Bell at Boise, Idaho, November 12, 1955. Bell's ancestors came from England, and were active in Chester, Londonderry and other cities of southern New Hampshire. The most outstanding member was Stephen Bell of Exeter (at Dartmouth a year in 1793), then elected Governor of New Hampshire and later United States Senator.
See In Memoriam for details of his career.
