In memory of Tim Ellis '55, who was accidentally drowned in Lake Erie last September, the executive committee of the Class of 1955 has voted to create the Timothy Wright Ellis Memorial Fund and has directed its first fund-raising appeal to members of the class. More than $500 has been contributed by '55 men to date, and other gifts or pledges may be sent to Crosby Hall, Hanover, N. H., addressed to the Ellis Memorial Fund.
The annual Alumni-Varsity Hockey Game, to be played in Hanover on March 10, will be a "Tim Ellis Memorial Game" and proceeds will go to the memorial fund. Although never a hockey star, Ellis loved the game, was a loyal, hard-working member of the squad, and was warmly liked by all for his friendly nature and fine qualities. He also played rugby and was active in the Undergraduate Council, the Dartmouth Christian Union and the Human Rights Society. He was class vice-president in junior year and belonged to Green Key, Casque and Gauntlet, Beta Theta Pi and Alpha Kappa Kappa medical fraternity.
The Timothy Wright Ellis Memorial Fund will have a double pur- pose: $700 will endow an annual award to be made, perhaps at Wet-Down, to an undergraduate possessing the scholastic and extra-curricular drive and the spirit, loyalty and friendliness which made Tim Ellis such an outstanding member of the College community; and the remainder of the fund, depending upon its size, will be used as a scholarship and/or loan fund to assist an undergraduate of similar qualities.
