CUPID'S CORNER.... We had thought by devoting almost the entire last issue to our rampaging Romeos, we might be able to turn the spotlight on our bachelor contingent this month. However, the love bug apparently has been working over time, this being Leap Year, and so let's take a glance at the latest entrants in the prospective husband category. Briefly, the imposing list includes ... former Marine Lt. Andy Sigler (now back at 2nd yr. Tuck School we believe) to Margaret Romefelt of Ridgewood, N. J. (Andy's home town) and the U. of Conn.... Another N. J. exgyrene, Hank Fry, to Edith Hershey of Lancaster, Pa.: Hank is presently associated with the sales division of Armstrong Cork Co. in St. Louis.... John Kieman to Suzanne Clough, a resident of Rye, N. Y„ and former Albertus Magnus College student; unfortunately we have no recent information on John's activities .... Rhodes Scholar BrockBrower to Ann Montgomery of Oxford, Ohio, a talented young lady who for the past two years has been combining studies at the Sorbonne with a busy fashion modeling schedule. The wedding, tentatively scheduled for mid-July, is appropriately to take place in Oxford, England.... Olympic skier Bill Beck, now working for International Paper, Manchester, N. H., to Pamela Battey of Riverside, Conn., and Bennington College '57. Our belated commendation by the way, Bill, for the swell performance in the Winter Olympics at Cortina, Italy.
Al Davis is engaged to a Colby Jr. alumna, Roberta Green of West Roxbury, Mass. Al's doctorate studies at the U. of Wisconsin apparently have been recently interrupted, as his new address is Anchorage, Alaska. The Army, Al? ... 2nd yr. Dartmouth Med School student, Johnny Monahan to Catherine Ryan of Lowell, Mass., and Wheelock College '54. We understand Johnny will continue his med studies at Harvard this fall... . Tom Bagg, due to bade vale to Harvard Law School this June, to Joyce Maynard of Plandome, L. I. Joyce graduated from Radcliffe College last June. And lastly, Air Force Lt. Bob Pierce to Ann Anderson of Miami, Fla., and Stetson College '56. Bob is now stationed in Syracuse, N. Y., and should be due for discharge shortly.
And now for those hardy classmates who have successfully completed the all-important altar visit. On January 14 in an afternoon church service. Lt. (jg) Don Bigham took Dorothy Ladd Duracker of Winchester, Mass., as his bride before a large Dartmouth turnout, including best man Chuck Luker, and ushers George Passano and Chet Caswell. The new Mr. and Mrs. spent most of their honeymoon in Canada on the ski slopes prior to Don's departure on a Med cruise aboard his Newport-based DD, the USS Monssen. Rather than leave his new bride at home, however, Don decided to have her see some of Europe, arranging to have Dottie keep up with the Monssen as it steamed from port to port. Sounds like a wonderful way to extend one's honeymoon with the help of Uncle Sam if you can afford it. Chuck and Els Luker are living in N. J. where Chuck is putting in his Army time, while Chet and Syl Caswell are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the first-born in their Worcester home. George Passano is being kept busy by Uncle Sam guarding the gold reserve at Ft. Knox. We understand that fraternity brothers Dave Stanley and George Davies and their wives were also in attendance at the wedding ceremonies. A week later and almost 1500 miles away, Tom Frenzel and Ruth Sargent tied the wedding knot in their home city of St. Paul, Minn. The former U. of Minn, student and her husband, recently discharged from the Army, are now living in St. Paul, following their return from a Nassau honeymoon.
While enjoying the leisurely Nassau life, the Frenzels happened to bump into honeymooners George and Beth High (the former Elizabeth Codman of Boston) who were married on January 29, before another large Dartmouth gathering. Meade Schaffner, presently associated with the Wyeth Laboratories in Lancaster, Pa., assisted as best man, while BobYates (newspaper work, Binghamton, N. J.), and Clint Mason (Western Electric) ushered. Other '53's present included Don Williams and his fiancee and Don and Barbara Hoffman. The new groom will complete his 3rd yr. law studies at Columbia, where he roomed with Mike Zarin. Not to be out-done, Mike wasted no time following his roommate's example, marrying Renee Kroll of the Bronx, N. Y., a day later, January 30, with Ed Glickman and George among those looking on. Since their return from their Bermuda honeymoon, the Zarins have been occupied with schoolwork, Mike at Columbia Law School and Renee at Columbia Teacher's College.
It appears that Mike's studying hasn't been in vain, as a few weeks ago he was a member of the winning legal team of the Harlan Fiske Stone Moot Court Competition (similar to the Ames competition at Harvard), and furthermore Mike was singled out as the best-speaker in the competition, receiving a $100 prize.
We have space for just a few miscellaneous items....Lt. (jg) John Sargent USN, now instructing at Newport OCS, hopes to receive his discharge in time to matriculate at Brown this fall, to commence work on his Master's degree in education .... Warren Fisher, another Lt. (jg) USN due for discharge this summer, will commence medical studies at Yale this September.... Among the '53 exservicemen back in Hanover completing their studies are Frank O'Reilly and Chuck Kettering. Frank is back at 2nd year med school and will join Johnny Monahan in the transfer toHarvard this fall, while Chuck, accompanied by his attractive wife Jean, is enrolled in the undergraduate college and hopes to resume his place on the tennis team this spring Fred Walsh now seeing duty as an Army Lt. in Fort Bliss, Texas, claims he hasn't been near a slide trombone in over a year ....JackAmmerman has switched bosses temporarily from General Motors Acceptance Corp. to the U.S. Army, and is located at Ft. Benning, Ga.
That, I fear, is it for this month, except that we would like to remind any members of the Class who had intended to contribute to the Milt Kramer Memorial Fund, but who for some reason have thus far neglected to do so, that the official drive will close this month. Remember the Alumni Fund: PARTICIPATE, DO IT NOW!
