Maiden column. Same typewriter; same heroic prose style; same poignant notes from same prominent men. But appearing now in the MAGAZINE. In maiden column we adopt some (2) policies: to quote rather than rephrase, wherever possible; to not let your notes, letters grow too much moss before using.

Kent Cooley: "Am correspondent and feature editor of 'Mediterranean Courier,' space writer for 'Christian Science Monitor.' Joining London staff of United Press Intl., so am leaving Casablanca."

Jim Clark has returned to native Guatemala and is "General Manager of own tour company which operates tours in Guatemala as well as travel agency which sells tours and travel to local customers. Usually go to U.S. or Europe in the fall each year."

Bud Buie writing from Rochester, Minn., where he and the Mayo Clinic are, "Completing a surgical fellowship next April which began in 1953. Am now assistant to the staff in surgery, then out into the jungle."

Einar Grell: "Mary Ellen, seven, Christopher, five, and Diana Lou are in the best of health and are taking up skin diving for their complexion. My wife Helen has returned to teaching kindergarten at Dix Hills and loves it, especially in view of the fact that she ran Ding Dong School for all the kids in the neighborhood prior to her return to the classroom. Most of our time is spent in boating on the Great South Bay. I'm now head of science at Half Hollow Hills H.S. in Huntington Station, N. Y., and part time instructor at St. John's University."

Ben Jacobson: "Celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary in August, with the help of our three young ladies, Cathy, seven, Susie, six, and Wendy, four. We moved from East Orange to West Allenhurst, N. J., and enjoy real country living. Am partners with my father and brother Bob '39 in the brokerage firm of Benjamin Jacobson & Sons. We are members of the NYSE."

Jeannie Reed, writing for Bob, "who doesn't even have time to read his mail, much less reply. He is taking a surgical residency at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. We have daughters three: Valerie, five, Janis, two, and Vanessa, zero."

Q. Kopp: "Opened my own office for the general practice of law May 1 in S.F. Deke Jackson, Jim Dowaliby very much on the scene here. Bud Hughes very big in L.A. Carl Granger stationed at the Letterman Army Hospital with charming wife Helen plus children. Tell the boys to help us keep California green ... send money."

Bob Goetz is making living as Supervisor of Technical Writing for a pharmaceutical house in Buffalo, The Arner Co.

Pb Worthen: "Kathy and I recently moved to a very fine home on the ocean front in Marblehead. We bought a monstrosity and worked out a remodeled personality for it. After nine months' riding the contractor's back we are in, goggling at the beautiful surroundings."

Bob Nutt: "Eight years now with Donahue & Coe, adv in N.Y.C., fast becoming a professional longevity record. Am in contact end but still do plenty of copy, most of time on the Herald Trib account."

Zandy Taft: "After adopting two children we had, promptly, one of our own, so we are kept busy. Was elected to the N. H. Legislature last year and now spend three days a week on that in addition to my primary business of running a small private electric utility. Have gotten excellent assignments in the Legislature and find it most interesting."

Dick Leslie (Wichita): "Am having an interesting time following various and sundry interests, the main ones being 'Leslie's Retail Liquor Store' and 'R. M. Leslie, Builder,' the latter concerned with residential construction and taking most of my time."

Tom Sheehan (Gainesville, Fla.) is with the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station doing work on research and production problems in the cut flower business.

Pete Costich (Westbury, L. I.): "Am Retail Sales Manager for Hicks Nurseries, the oldest nursery in the country and the largest on Long Island and am also secretary-treasurer of a subsidiary purchasing company jointly held by six of the largest nurseries on L. I. Have recently worked for a whole month on a research project having to do with garden center retailing."

Joe Kelley (Cleveland): "Have returned to Cleveland after the stint in Ann Arbor to be Chief Resident in Medicine at University Hospitals, after which I plan to stay here permanently. Have bought a home in Shaker Heights, which we are very pleased with."

Marv Durning (Seattle): "Having given up on Yale, where I taught economics and studied law at one and the "same time, I with my new wife Jean have moved to the West Coast where I will practice law with the firm of Little, LeSourd et al."

John Mcllwraith (Midland, Mich.): "Two years now with Dow Chemical and am now manager of advertising for our Building Products group, a small but rapidly growing part of the business."

Chet Palmer (E. Thetford, Vt.): "Family consists of me and five-year-old pug. At present I am a bookkeeper for Southworth's Garage in Norwich, the nursery business being in temporary suspended animation."

Jim Sullivan (Wilmington, Del.): "Have passed my eighth anniversary with duPont Eng. Dept. in architectural and civil design, structural steel principally. Am Leading Designer on about a fourth of the company's work and enjoy it a great deal."

Bill Perkins (Westover AFB, Mass.): "My wife Zelah, Bill and I are rejoicing in our first home after hotels and renting for six and a half years. We built a house in South Hadley behind Mt. Holyoke. Am Assistant Chief Intelligence Div. of this squadron, but the work is such that the description must stop at this point."

Jay Haft (Rutherford, N. J.): "Am Research Fellow at Seton Hall College of Med. in Jersey City. Have grant from National Institute of Health to study relation of the cerebellum to the visual system. Gesundheit! Also have small business on side importing marine and navigational gear and small sailing dinghies. An invitation to have a drink on our small auxiliary cutter 'Microtus' when in Larchmont, Nantucket, or Edgartown."

Ort Hicks (USIS, Oslo, Norway): "Janet and I spent a month on a 4000-mile lecture trip above the Arctic Circle, through part of Lapland and along the Pasvik River at the old Finnish border. The Nordic maidens are still chasing Chris Bugge, who lives just a mile from us."

Pete Schumacher (Euclid, O.): "Recently I became a member of the permanent staff of Cleveland Clinic, as a Consultant in Endocrinology."

Burt Proom (Bryn Mawr, Penn.): "Recently adopted our second baby, William Harper. Our other boy Chandy is three. I've been transferred to the Philadelphia Branch of Maryland Casualty as Assistant Resident Manager, after spending nine years in the Harrisburg, Penna., Branch."

Bob Castle (Darien, Conn.): "Mary and I have two boys, Grant, six and Steven, three, and another is due momentarily. I'm an account executive, on the Colgate account, at Ted Bates, where I have been made a VicePresident."

Charlie Fay (Phoenix, Ariz., and points west) was recently promoted to Major in Marine Corps, is about to go to the Far East for a year's tour of duty.
