With the exception of some up-to-date news from Frank Kappler concerning the ski weekend in Hanover which was just recently concluded, my current accumulation of news is nonexistent, so that some of the information which I have may no longer be current. I will, however, pass it along and if there are any corrections or complaints just let me know. Better still drop me a line and bring me up to date on your family and yourselves.
Frank will probably give you a complete description of the recent ski weekend in Hanover before your read this column, however I would like to report that this year our Class had a great turnout for this occasion. Besides Frank and Gerry Kappler there were others from the Class present: including Ed and Helen Higbee, Brad and Kay Chase, Don and Lucia Ballantyne, Al and Arline Roberts, and Tom and Jean Parker. Bob and MarjorieBensmore dropped in for part of the festivities. Certainly '36 had a good representation which was almost, but not quite, the largest of any class and all reports are of a great time.
I haven't been able to keep up with all the news I get of grandchildren and engagements but I must congratulate our Chairman Ray Builter and his wife Jerri on their new grandchild, Kelley Patterson Cornell, ( a girl, in case you have the same trouble I had with the name).
Among the members of the Class with sons at Dartmouth at present is Dr. Vic Kiarsis, a pathologist at St. Lukes Hospital New Bedford, Mass. Victor Jr. is in the class of '73 and is the youngest of the Kiarsis' four children. Vic Sr. was not able to make Reunion last year because he had two other graduations. Diana received her MBA from Harvard Business School last June and David graduated from Trinity College.
Another son of 1936 is Christopher Osgood '75 son of Stan and DorieOsgood. Chris is the second Osgood son at Dartmouth; his older brother Jonathan graduated in 1971. Stan and Dorie live in Winchester, Mass., and Stan is an editor for Houghton, Mifflin Co. in Boston. In the publishing field also is Ferris Mack, an editorial director for Doubleday & Co. in New York City. Ferris and Pat have a son Russell in the class of '73 at Dartmouth. There are two more boys coming along so perhaps they will continue the family tradition in Hanover. Both Stan and Fern's have indicated that they haven't any retirement plans as yet but they haven't said whether it's because they enjoy their work or because it's getting more and more expensive to keep our kids in college.
Ed and Ruth Brooks have a son Nelson who is a senior at Dartmouth this year. They also have three married daughters. Ed is a group vice president for Cities Service in New York but I know he played the golf course at Queechee, Vt., during Reunion last summer so perhaps he is interested in joining the Kapplers and Builters in acquiring property in that area.
Norm and Betty Sherry's third son is in the Class of '73 in Hanover. He spent part of his sophomore year in France in a study abroad program. Their youngest son David is a senior in High School. Norm is a vice president for Tect. Inc., in Northvale, N.J., and they live in White Plains, N.Y.
Another Class father is Morrie Stein whose second son Stephen attended Dartmouth and now is a resident surgeon at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Morrie and Dot live in Waterbury, Conn., where Morrie is president of the Torrington Supply Co. In addition to his business, Morrie is a vice president and on the Executive Committee of the Waterbury Hospital, on the Executive Committee of the Mattituck Council of the Boy Scouts, a trustee of the YMCA, and or; the Board of Directors of the Colonial Bank and Trust Co. When he finds time he plays golf and skis.
The Alumni Fund Drive for 1972 is at the halfway mark about now and I urge you to give Frank "Head Agent" Curtis a lift by sending in your contributions now if you haven't already done so. Also, I could use any news of the Class and yourselves that you can spare.
