A BEQUEST and a gift totaling $138,562 have been received by the College in support of its financial aid program. The bequest, amounting to $88,954, was made by the late Herbert E. Gage '87. From M. L. Joslyn of Los Angeles, Calif., father of three Dartmouth sons, the College has received a gift of $49,608 to establish a fund to aid students after the freshman year.

The bequest made by Mr. Gage will be used to found the "Class of 1887 Memorial Fund," the income to support the Daniel Webster National Scholarships. Mr. Gage for 48 years worked in the civil engineering department of the Boston and Albany Railroad, and at the time of his retirement was assistant valuation engineer. He died October 25, 1954, in Haverhill, Mass.

According to the terms of the gift, the income from the Joslyn Fund will be used to aid students, other than freshmen, in the undergraduate College and in the Associated Schools. Students receiving help must have done "C" work or better the preceding year and must meet the College's other requirements for financial aid.

Mr. Joslyn's Dartmouth sons are: Marcellus N. Joslyn '24, of San Antonio, Texas; George R. Joslyn '25, South Haven, Mich.; and Merritt L. Joslyn '27, Hinsdale, Ill.
