1957DARTMOUTHPARENTSCOMMITTEEREPORT
I am delighted to report that Dartmouth Parents established new records in support of the Alumni Fund for the seventh consecutive year. Joining with the Dartmouth alumni in this 1957 campaign were 1,386 non-alumni Parents whose gifts totaled $57,040 and set new highs in both contributors and dollars.
These 1957 campaign achievements continued Dartmouth Parents in their role as leaders in this type of support to higher education. The ever-growing importance of this support to the College can be seen in comparing the results of the first organized Parents Campaign in 1951, $28,184 from 359 Parents, to the results this year. Gains of 88 contributors and $1,220 over the 1956 final figures were achieved for new records.
The size of gifts to the 1957 campaign ranged from five dollars to $1,000 and averaged $41. Approximately one third of the Parents of undergraduates and recent graduates gave their support to the 1957 Campaign. The names of Parent contributors appeared in the fall issue of "From Hanover," a quarterly maga- zine sent to all Parents and friends of the College.
Such results would not have been possible without the enthusiastic help of the 53-member Parents Committee whose personal calls in all sections of our nation were so important to our success. I would like to add a special word of appreciation for the work of Herman Swarzman and his New York Regional Committee.
The example of the growth of Dartmouth Parents' support cited above is vivid evidence of the increased importance of Parent participation in the Fund. I am sure that Dartmouth Parents will make even more impressive gains in years to come in joining with other members of the Dartmouth family to assure the College of continued strength for service to all sons.
