After several years of informal annual gettogethers, the Dartmouth men of this area officially formed an alumni club last fall. The group draws its members not only from Springfield, Vermont, but also from surrounding towns in the general vicinity of Ascutney Mountain, such as Reading, Perkinsville, Chester, Bellows Falls and Brattleboro in Vermont, and Claremont, Plainfield, Newport and Sunapee in New Hampshire. The officers of the club are Dr. Bernard Haubrich '23 of Claremont, president; Sidney Rollins '04 of Newport, vice-president; Arthur King '38 of North Springfield, secretary; and Henry Flinn '14 of Springfield, treasurer. Duncan Hunter '36t of Claremont, Richard Bowlen '30 of Reading and Hartness Beardsley '37 of Springfield comprise the executive committee. The present mailing list includes about 140 men, but any others residing in this area that we may have missed are certainly urged to contact the secretary.
The first organizational meeting was held last fall at the Hartness House in Springfield with about 30 members present. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and an interesting talk by Bob Monahan '29, College Forester, who came down from Hanover. This January we had our second official meeting—a Ladies Night - held at the Hotel Moody in Claremont. About 40 alumni and their wives attended, including three guests from Hanover, Professor and Mrs. N. G. Burleigh '11 of Tuck School and Gil Tanis '38, Associate in the Office of Development, who was the speaker for the evening. Gil brought us up to date on the latest ideas for future development at the College, after which every one enjoyed watching the new movie entitled "Dartmouth Visited" and agreed Dartmouth must be a great place to spend the four best years of your life.
