The editors record with deep sorrow the passing of Harold Goddard Rugg '06, Literary Editor Emeritus of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, on February 13, 1957. Modest, scholarly, lover of books and gardens and the North Country, Harold Rugg devoted his entire adult life to the service of Dartmouth College. For 39 years, from 1914 until his retirement as Associate Librarian of the College in 1953, he was Literary Editor of this magazine and was in charge of the book-review section. It was a joyous association for everyone on the staff.

Quite spontaneously, the friends of Harold Rugg have begun sending funds to Baker Library for the purchase of books in his memory. Just what form this memorial will take has not been decided, but that it should be related to the books he loved so deeply seems exactly right and fitting.
