Announcement has recently been received of the change in name of Seward H. Mott Associates to Seward H. Mott and Buford M. Hayden, Land Planning Consultants, with new office address at 908 Twentieth Street, N.W., Washington, D. C. Congratulations to partner "Boo" Hayden '41.

A. H. (Gus) Ayers '07 was the recipient this winter o£ the two Annual Golden Beaver Awards for Engineering presented to those "who have demonstrated particular skill, responsibility, and integrity ... have distinguished themselves to an exceptional degree in the profession of heavy-engineering construction."

Announcement was received some time ago that Harvey Graves EE'51 had been appointed Manager of the Nuclear Design Section of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. In this position, he is "responsible for studies and analysis required in the development and design of fixed fuel element power reactors and for developing machine methods for doing reactor calculations. He will also handle calculations pertaining to shielding design and his group will analyze the reactivity and radio-activity hazards created by reactors."

We enjoyed a visit here some time ago from Dick Tousley '42 who is now with the architect's firm of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson and Abbott in Boston.

A letter from Cy Helm CE'47 brings us up-to-date on his activities since leaving Thayer School. He made his start in West Texas with Stanolind Oil and Gas Company and after about a year joined The Western Company which provides technical "engineered well services." With the exception of a two-year stretch of recall to military duty, 1953-55, he has remained with The Western Company in or near Midland, Texas, ever since. While in the service he was sent to the Middle East and he writes of this sojourn:

"My wife, a native Texan who naturalized me in June of 1948, was able to join me.... We enjoyed our tour of duty there and our only child, a boy, was born with dual citizenship; he is both Arab and American."

The January 11, 1957 issue of SouthwestBuilder and Contractor contains a three-page feature article entitled "Sam Hobbs —Walking Textbook on Concrete." The body of the article clearly indicates that the headline writer had a very high opinion of Sam Hobbs '13 and was using the term in its most complimentary and its broadest sense. The occasion of the article was Sam's automatic retirement at age 65 from his position as field engineer and engineer of structures with the Los Angeles District Office of the Portland Cement Association. Sam writes: "Some of the boys may wonder: What happens to such an engineer when he retires?... I have already taken on a few consulting jobs including changes in building codes and a concrete problem at a rocket test stand in the desert. I am also doing some trade magazine writing for construction firms in lift-slab and prestressing specialties." He has also associated himself with Clyde C. Kennedy, Consulting Engineer, in Los Angeles and his office address is Room 1058, 742 South Hill Street, Los Angeles, Calif.
