In 1968, Bill Johnson's golfers brought Dartmouth to 31st place in the Miami Invitational Tournament. This spring, again in a field of more than 40 top collegiate golf teams, he Indians came home in 21st place.

"We have the potential to surprise a lot of people this season," said Johnson. "Much of our talent - such as sophomores Dave Hill, Jim Cox, Mike Furey, and Marsh Gavre - has come to the varsity after producing outstanding freshman records. We also have some golfers in Captain Barry Simpter, Mark Hallenbeck, and Jeff Jones returning from last season (Hallenbeck is returning from military service) who provide us with strength throughout the lineup."
