Frank J. O'Gara '23

Frank J. O'Gara '23 of Atlanta, Ga. (right), Regional Commissioner of General Services Administration's seven-state southeastern area, has been awarded that agency's Distinguished Service Medal in recognition of outstanding services as Regional Commissioner. This highest GSA award is given only "for performance above and beyond the call of duty."

Presentation was made September 23 by Franklin G. Floete, Administrator of General Services, at ceremonies held at GSA's regional headquarters in the Peachtree-Seventh Building, Atlanta.

Before becoming Regional Commissioner of General Services Administration, Mr. O'Gara was assistant to the Regional Director of the U. S. Post Office Department in Atlanta. Prior to that he was associated with R. H. Macy and Company for thirty years, the last 21 with Davison-Paxon Company in Atlanta and Augusta except for a duty tour with the Naval Air Force in World War II. He served as Vice President and Director of Davison's for many years and was General Manager of Davison's Augusta store when he left private industry to enter Government service in 1955.

Mr. O'Gara, who was president of the Dartmouth Club of Georgia in 1939-41, has been active in Atlanta civic affairs for a number of years. He is a past president of the Exchange Club and of the Atlanta Travelers' Aid Society, was chairman of the Federal Division of the 1956 Community Chest Campaign and chairman of the Public Employees' Division of the 1958 Cancer Crusade.

Presently he makes his home at 1310Peachtree Battle Avenue, N. W., in Atlanta. His brother is John E. O'Gara '18.
