President Dickey and President Emeritus Hopkins in the spruced-up bulldozer which tore off one end of the last College Street house (see small cut) on the Hopkins Center site. The ground-clearing ceremony took place October 24 before a large audience including the Dartmouth Trustees. The Latin inscription on the gilded bulldozer blade reads: "A running start into Dartmouth's third century." Working drawings for the Center will go out for construction bids this spring.
Speakers at the ceremony included (l to r) Edward W. Gude '59, Warner Bentley, Mr. Hopkins, President Dickey, and Wallace K. Harrison, the architect.
