Six Dartmouth Alumni Win Seats in Congress

IN the national elections on Tuesday, November 4, the successful bid of Nelson A. Rockefeller '30 (R) for the Governorship of New York captured the headlines and drew the greatest interest among Dartmouth men, but six other alumni were also winners in their campaigns to be U. S. Congressmen in the new session beginning next month.

John S. Monagan '33 (D) of the 5th Connecticut district was newly elected to Congress; the other five, all Republicans, were reelected. Monagan, former Mayor of Waterbury, Conn., won in the clean sweep that the Democrats made of all six Congressional seats in Connecticut.

Reelected to Congress were:

Edgar W. Hiestand 'l0 (R), of Altadena, representing the 21st District in California for a fourth term.

Edwin B. Dooley '26 (R), of Mamaroneck, representing the 26th District, West-chester County, in New York for a second term.

Thomas B. Curtis '32 (R), of St. Louis, representing the 2nd District in Missouri for a fifth term.

Perkins Bass '34 (R), of Peterborough, representing the 2nd District in Ne v Hampshire for a third term.

William E. Minshall '35, of Cleveland, representing the 23rd District in Ohio for a second term.

Also elected was Robert R. Barry '36T, who attended Tuck School as a special student. He will represent the 27th District in New York.

Mr. Dooley's victory in the 26th New York district was won against Phil E. Gilbert Jr. '36, of Larchmont, his Democratic opponent. In New York's 3rd district, Nassau County, the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Congress was A. William Larson '41 of Levittown.
