Dartmouth's squash team, under Coach Red Hoehn, started off the season by sweeping to four straight victories, including a 9-0 victory over Pennsylvania. However, the competition grew stiffer and in recent Ivy League play the Indians have lost three straight, 7-2 to Princeton, 8-1 to Harvard and 7-2 to Yale, for an overall 4-3 record. The loss to Princeton was the closest as the Indians played well but were barely nosed out in four very close matches. Against Harvard, Captain Dirk Hoehn suffered his only defeat of the season as top-ranked Larry Sears beat him in straight games. John Horan, who moved up to the number two spot for Dartmouth over Captain Dan Pierson, pulled a major upset by edging the Harvard second man, Charlie Hamm, and this was Dartmouth's lone win of the day.
Against Yale, Captain Dick Hoehn and fourth-seeded Dave Shephard were the only Dartmouth winners, although both Dan Pierson and John Horan pushed their opponents to the limit before losing. Here again the matches were closer than the score indicated.
Army, Williams, Amherst, Wesleyan and the Intercollegiates remain on schedule, and the Big Green should do well against most of the remaining opponents for a better-than-average season.
