A GRANT of $500,000 to Dartmouth College from The Spaulding-Potter " Charitable Trusts of Manchester, N.H., has been announced by President Dickey. The grant, in memory of Huntley N. Spaulding, A.M. '27, Governor of New Hampshire and Trustee of the College during his term of office, 1927-29, is to be used toward the cost of one of the major units of the Hopkins Center.

The Trustees of The Spaulding-Potter Charitable Trusts stated that "Dartmouth College, throughout its illustrious history, has contributed much to New Hampshire in the way of educational opportunities to its younger people, and" conversely, citizens of New Hampshire have indicated their faith in Dartmouth by contributing to the College's welfare.

"Huntley N. Spaulding was a Trustee of the College during his Governorship of the State. He was a friend of President Hopkins; he knew well and admired many Dartmouth alumni, both in New Hampshire and elsewhere."

The Trustees indicated that the grant was made at this time in response to Dartmouth's 200th Anniversary Development Program, currently seeking to raise $17,000,000.

The 1500,000 grant is one of the largest received thus far in Dartmouth's capital gifts campaign. It has sent the total of gifts and pledges beyond the $5,000,000 mark, as reported in the campaign column on Page 13 of this issue.
