Following reunion last June, Paul andHelen O'Connell left for Europe for the summer, their excuse being the meeting of the American Bar Association in London. Paul was selected to play on the twenty-member American golf team, which was to have been captained by Edgar Eisenhower, who at the last minute was unable to make the trip. To quote Paul, "We played 36 holes scotch (alternate shots by partners on a team of two) at the Working Golf Club, about 35 miles northwest of London. The American team won both rounds 7-3. My partner and I won each round one up, the one in the morning with a birdie on the last green." Paul met Paul Hannah at the Queen's garden party, and Lee Greenebaum on the Independence returning from the Mediterranean.

The Hitchcock clan, in full force, to judge from Hitch's letter, are planning to go back to Europe this summer, and will spend five weeks cruising in Scandinavian waters in the new boat which they ordered when they were there last year. Hitch doesn't say whether or not they plan to sail the boat home, but my guess is that they will follow the more conventional course and ship it, while they ride in comfort on something a little bigger.
Jack Sheldon, while attending the convention of the Scientific Apparatus Makers of America, of which Ken Andersen is Executive Vice President, at Palm Springs, Calif., spent an evening with Bus and Ruth Turpin at their home in Pasadena. Jack reports that they are well and very happy with their life in California, so much so that they can't work up much enthusiasm about even a visit back to their old haunts in the East. Jack's son, Pete, is a freshman at Dartmouth, won his numerals in basketball, and has now made the freshman baseball squad.

The sudden and tragic death of Rog Salinger was noted very briefly in these notes last month, as it occurred just as the MAGAZINE was going to press. A more complete account will be found elsewhere in this issue. From the very first of our days as alumni, Rog has devoted his time, energy, and wise counsel to the affairs of our Class, as all of us who have been your class officers so fully realize. He always kept himself in the background, until we prevailed upon him to accept the job as Head Agent last year, a task into which he put all of his great talent and energy. While the results last year were disappointing to him, I know that he had every confidence that this year he would be able to awaken in all of us the desire to do our full share for the College that he loved so well. As I write this on the eve of leaving for the class officers' meeting in Hanover, it is hard to realize that Rog will not be there, and it is going to be even harder for all of us to realize this when problems arise which need his wisdom and devoted service.
