The Dartmouth Club of Baltimore is indebted to Mr. Donald Morrison, Provost of the College, for his interesting and enlightening talk before a Ladies Night gathering at the Broadview Apartments on April 3.
Mr. Morrison spoke knowingly concerning the problems of attracting and retaining superior faculty members in the light of increasing competition from other institutions and attractive salaries offered by industry.
Inasmuch as the faculty embodies the inner character of a college, he said, the individual faculty members go a long way toward making Dartmouth the College that it is today. It was gratifying to those in attendance to hear that the College is making every effort to stay ahead of the field in its fight for top-drawer instructors.
The well-spoken Provost also answered a number of rather telling questions on the Harvard Drum battle, various fraternity problems and other phases of College life. All in all, it was an evening well spent, and we hope Don will return soon again.
On the decidedly minus side of the ledger comes news of the deaths of two club members - Roland Barnfather '25, of Hagerstown and A. Rudolph Stewart '19 of Baltimore. Our sympathies go out to the families of both of these fine men.
This was another busy interviewing season for candidates in the Class of 1962, and we would like to thank Judd McCarthy '26 and his son, Bill '53 for the use of the Crown Room at McCarthy-Hicks, plus Stub Webster '45, Doug Kelly '32, Matt Fenton '49, George Parkhurst '30, and others who took their valuable time to look over the current crop of high-school seniors.
