The Dartmouth Club of Baltimore opened its 1960-61 season with a gala dinner at L'Hirondelle Club in Suburban Baltimore on Friday, October 14 — Dartmouth Night. Bob Murphy, radio and TV voice of the Baltimore Orioles, was guest speaker at a dinner party that included wives as well as club members. Murphy, who has broadcast quite a few Dartmouth football games in past years when he worked out of Boston, told a number of interesting stories about Coach Bob Blackman and other members of the Collegiate Football Fraternity. He had nothing but praise for the type of football Dartmouth and other Ivy League institutions display each year.
President Bill McCarthy '53 welcomed the gathering which included his parents, Judand Mackie McCarthy '26, John and BarbaraWolf '50, Bob and Jane Jones '38, Baileyand Lyell Walten '43 and many others. In addition, the Junior League of Baltimore's rhythm group called the Monotones - highlighted by Bev McCarthy, Bill's wife - entertained with some snappy numbers during the cocktail hour.
At the conclusion all were agreed that the Baltimore Chapter was off to a flying start in the new season.
