The Dartmouth Club of Baltimore, under a new format and schedule of meetings, is showing a rebirth of enthusiasm and interest, "When it was realized two years ago that attendance at the customary monthly meetings had slipped badly during the 1950's, President Bob Jones '38 conducted a poll of the membership to determine the best?way to stimulate club activity and rekindle its former spirit. '
Although a few members indicated a preference to continue meetings on a monthly basis results of the poll showed a clear desire to meet less frequently than once a month. Also most alumni expressed a wish to "dress up" the meetings if that could be done. Therefore, wives and dates; were to be included at party-type gatherings and it was felt that meetings should be limited to one each in the fall, winter and spring, with a business meeting for election of new officers coming in late May or early June.
The new plan was deemed an unqualified success a year ago when all three parties were enthusiastically attended, as was the business meeting in the spring when William J. McCarthy '53, was elected President for the current year. Under Bill's guidance the Club's Dartmouth Night and Christmas parties were well attended and enjoyed by all.
In addition to the customary turnout of Club "regulars," the parties have attracted a number of new alumni and their wives, a very welcome addition indeed. Another factor in the renewed club spirit is the use of L'Hirondelle Club as base of operations. This attractive .club in suburban Ruxton provides a setting which is reminiscent of Hanover, especially during the winter. Meanwhile, the Club has continued its customary interviewing operations and other business as usual. But after almost two years of festive evenings with the ladies included it is felt by the majority that the Dartmouth Club of Baltimore is on a more enthusiastic footing than at any time in recent years.
